Hey I am going to look at a 97 yamaha blaster 250 2 stroke it there anything I should look at specificly thanks for any help

well for one i HIGHLY doubt it is a 250, lol if it was he would want a pretty penny for it because he has a ton of money in the motor, look to see what it has for upgrades, take a compression tester with u, because if hes telling u its a 250 he probably full of sh*t and the bike is broken down and beat up, cleanliness is a big thing too, because if its clean usually he has taken care of it, but to me this guy sounds like a dumbass, take some pics of it and post em up, we will see if it is a good one or not, how much is he asking?

X-2 ^. Boreing it .050 over does not make it a 250. Ask questions, does he have any reciepts for motor? Put it on milk crate and check suspension and bearings good.

I would definetly ask for reciepts. And maintenance schedule. Pull the plug take a look at that. Def do a compression test. Anything less that 110 is nearing rebuild. See if the oil tank is still there or is premix. Has it been bored at all? spin the tires see if anything is bent! Then take it for a rip! Then make a reasonable offer if all check out.
My 2cents!

Like everybody else is saying, do a compression test! Hear it run, how does it sound? Knocks and rattles, or runs well with just the usual chatter of the reeds opening and closing?

The cleaner the bike, the better it has been maintained. How much tread on the tires? Do the brakes pull well? Do they even work?

How's the air filter? Is there even one in there? How about the chain and chain rollers?

Wheel and axle bearings deserve a good checking out, as do the A-arm bushings. Ask a lot of questions and don't be afraid to walk away if you see something you don't like or feel comfortable with.

Also, remember this: I bought a used Banshee last month, if only because my wife told the seller that WE wanted it. Wait a minute?! WE?!!! I was about to walk away when she opened her mouth. Moral: Don't bring your significant other with you when quad shopping. I wasted $ 800.00 on what turned out to be a POS with a leaky head gasket and rusty cylinders. All I got outta the deal was a lot of frustration and a pretty nice DG aluminum front bumper. Never again. Lesson learned.
