well as some of you may have read i just purchased a stroker kit, and im going to get my head ported and most likely will be buying a new piston. anyways i was going to get a jet kit..is it pointless to get a kit or should i just get a new carb?
a stroked ported blaster would highly benefit from a bigger carb..say a 33mm keihin pwk.
i know alotta people that have had big problems trying to get the jetting right with the vitos kit.all you should need is a bigger main..then tune the needle clip position and the air screw.
honestly it wold depend on your porting. if you go with an aggressive port then you really should have a bigger carb in the 33-35mm range. for an aggressive trail/mx i would think that 30-33mm. and for a mild trail port you could go with the stock 26mm to 30mm but even then the stock carb will be limiting you. if all you have done is port work to clean up the casting flaws and to make adjustments for the stroker then the stock carb is fine. a basic port job that cleans up the castings and matches the timing to the stroker will make the blaster run much better and stronger. however, the cost of that work is very similar to the more aggressive porting and is probably within a couple of dollars of a basic trail port job. if you are going to install the stroker you will need to rejet. if you want to get a jet kit let me know as i have a couple of the dyno jet kits that i never did use. I also have a 28mm mikuni tm that has been taper bored to 29 or 29.5mm (can't remeber) that was jetted for a stock bore/stroke ported engine with an fmf exhaust and open airbox w/ K&N filter that I may also let go. again pm me with any questions.
