I have a 99 blaster with a fresh top end rebuild new boysen power reeds, fmf fatty exhaust, and new spark plug. the engine starts and idles perfect, but is very sluggish getting to the powerband. I just bought the blaster and it runs great on idle and top end but very sluggish getting to the powerband. Anyone know what may be going on?

Could be a variety of reasons. From my experience when i first got my blaster it was terrible like that. I just thought blastys were weak like that until my cousin rode it and told me it was slipping clutch... Took the clutch cover off and there was only two clutch springs and the clutch plates were fried. Anyways i put the new "barnett" clutch on and about got tossed off the back. It was a whole new beast.... Reeds and or dirty carb is a easy check...

Im pretty sure it was never rejetted for the pipe... Any clue what jet kit to use? this is my first blaster, I have had a banshee and raptor before but never a blaster. Just picked it up as a project bike and so far its a pretty fun ride once it gets going. I can feel the clutch slipping just a bit when I let out on it and i have one on order already, but i would like to get the most out of this small machine.

Its the Throttle Over-ride system. It shuts the carb down when it is stuck wide open. This is a huge flaw in blasties, they mess up all the time. Even if it isn't the TORS it is a good thing to get rid of anyway. It is the wire that comes out of your throttle box and into your carb. there is a connection i believe under the front hood, just follow it down and disconect it, might just work.

rockymountainatv.com.......id buy more than one though...id buy 270 through 310 or so...just so you have some extras in the future if you do any mods.......i got my jets at a honda dealer though..it doesnt hafta be a yamaha dealer...

i am having the same problem. i am running a 320 jet, replaced all my seals, cleaned my carb, new reeds, and still doing it for me. but i can feel my clutch slipping...

Coreyh912- I would definetley start at 290 main and go from there, as said buy couple up and couple down on the sizes. Do the plug chop it works great!

I think bagds10-ya need to do a plug chop if ya have stock carb I still think you are lean. My 89 was lightly ported with a sh*tty DG exhaust and ran a 330 main needle on third clip. I was a little rich but prefered it that way. with a 240 kit you have to need more i would think.

ok. i was running a 300 main and went up to a 320 and deffinately felt a power increase. but i need to do a chop. just been lazy
