well i got time today to pull the old piston off the crank, and i got it off earlier and i was trying to figure out what size the piston was...the only casting on the insides were

vertex 1228

i tryied looking on there site but cant find any 1228's?

Measure the piston about 3/4 of an inch from the bottom of the skirt. A micrometer is the best way to do this but a caliper will work. We all buy tools and this is a must have when doing this kind of work. You can get a caliper from MSC for about $30. The stock bore is 66 mm. Pistons are sold by size. If the caliper reads 66.25 you need to get that size piston. Make sure you inspect the condition of your bore. If the bore is damaged, you need to order an oversize piston and bore the cylinder.

Just wondering. I've always used Wiseco pistons. Back in the day I could get them for almost nothing. Before Wiseco started building crankshafts, they would send a ton of work my way. I'm running a Vertex in my blaster for the first time and so far it seems like it's holding up. I like the idea of coating the skirts. What, if any, damage are you seeing on the skirts? I only have about 3 hours on a the new motor and can't bring myself to tear it down just to inspect the new piston. Don't get me wrong, Wiseco builds a great product. Just wanted to give Vertex a shot.

Thanks

i see no damage at all on it. it had about 128psi when i compression tested...i know i can measure with a micrometer but its at work in my box and i wont me back in till monday, so i was hopin i'd just be able to tell from the casting numbers, buti guess not. the top end was in working condition when i took it off, it came on the project bike i purchased and waas running but i just decided to tear down and completely rebuild everything...and i wanted to go bigbore while everything was apart. the onnly reason im asking about finding out what size it is, is because i listed it for sale to try and recoup some of the money i spent on the big bore and wanted to let whoever buys it know how many rebuilds they got left on the cylinder.

im NOT putting it back together....im getting rid of it, but wanted to know what size the piston is so i can tell whoever ends up buying it. ill measure monday. i didnt know if the casting numbers meant anything compared to the size

i bought a big bore.
