i believe its mainly because everyone was on 250r's.................because they kickaass and the AMA wanted to get factory teams involved again....that's my understanding of what was happening.

National level racing is all about money. The AMA is ran by factory teams like Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki. If you're a privateer attemping to be on a national level good luck.
