I'm rebuilding the top end on my blaster and I have a few questions. First question is should the piston rod be able to wiggle at all ? Second question, is their any tips or tricks to installing the new piston and putting every thing back together or is it as easy as it looks like it should be?

the rod should have some side to side play, but no up and down play, the piston is pretty easy to install. just make sure you install it the right way, with the arrow pointing forward. after you get it back together, you need to do a proper break in, there's a great write up on here on how to do this. and after each heat cycle check the torque on the base nuts and the head nuts.

another thing you should do before you even fire it up is to do a leakdown test, again there's a great write up on here on how to build one, and how to properly use it.

one other hint. make sure the rings have the letters on them facing upward. then make sure that when you install the piston the ring gaps are on the locator pins on the piston and use lots of 2stroke oil to help things slide together.

all good advice, you should throw these dogs a few bones(rep points)

First thing I'm new to this so please bare with me, how do u give Rep points? Second on the shock I'm pretty sure but not 100%. I'm still finding aftermarket things on it as I go through it. Example the piston rod is made by hot rods. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that's not stock. It may have more done to the bottoms end than I know.

I'm not sure if its working. I'm doing this stuff from a phone so it kinda makes it difficult for me. Am I supposed to be clicking on the name?

no the middle icon, at the bottom of the avatar box, or just wait till you get to a pc, no biggie

Ok got off topic. Anyway thanks for the help I should be getting my jug and piston and everything tomorrow so ill let everyone know how it goes.

not to cross you noob but I said it was 20 for the head a while back and got slamed by like ten guys saying 18 pounds is right if you do the acctual convertion from metric to standard. so try 19 lol. just don't go past twenty if you don't want any problems. my clymers manual says 20 and I haven't pulled any studs out of the jug yet.
