Other than a bunch of time on it, it looks pretty legit to me. The top of the piston and head are layered with carbon deposits. This could be from a plethora of things. Clogged silencer, rich main jet, crap oil, (gotta love that Maxima supper M) wrong fuel to oil ratio, or not getting on the pipe. I'm wondering why your cases are cracked. You may have a bad lower connecting rod bearing. There's not much clearance between the rod and the cases. The rod may have cracked your cases. Tell your teach I said hey.

Here is a picture of the bottom end. Its cracked on the left side. The tranny leaks a little because I can see it get lower but when you wipe the bottom and smell and look at you can tell its 2stroke and fuel. Both seals where replaced just prior.

That needs to get fixed Boss and epoxy isn't going to do it. I see this all the time. It could be that you lower rod bearing went, or a prior owner dropped a piston skirt into the crankcase. Not a pretty picture. If it were mine, I'd just buy a used set of cases and rebuild from there.

i had a problem like that
turns out person before me even put red rtv on one of the case bolts.
did not see it till i took it out.
and the case was broke by the chaino_O

When I pulled the engine I just scraped the the JB weld off and then I found the crack. I just purchased a complete rebuilt engine for pretty cheap.

I'm thinking Craigslist or E-Bay. I played that game a couple of times myself. Please let us know how it works out. I'm only going to say this once so pay very close attention.

EVERY ENGINE YOU BUY OFF OF CRAIGSLIST OR E-BAY HAS A NEW TOP END OR HAS BEEN COMPLETLY REBUILT OR HAS COME OUT OF A GREAT RUNNING QUAD. I stopped buying them after I got ripped off three times.
