Top end cleaning

I'm back with another question..

As you guys know im rebuilding my blaster's engine and topend..

I want to know if it would be smart to clean the port of the top end where the spark plug sits in?

In this photo you can see gunk/burn out on it would it benefit if i clean it?

New piston and fresh bored cylinder is coming in on monday..

I would just soak it with some carb cleaner.

Yes it will. You can also spray carb cleaner on it and scrub it with a toothbrush.

Yaup. Clean out all that carbon buildup and also, swap the spark plug for a new B8ES!

I would also check your head and make sure its not warped before running your new parts/motor. A warped head will create an air leak, robbing you of speed and performance, and could possibly fry your new parts. You can do this by checking for warpage with a straight edge. To fix a warped head tape some 400 - 600 grit sand paper to a known flat surface, and press your head lightly on the sandpaper doing figure 8's. You should use a cutting oil ( wd40 works ) to prevent aluminum build up on the sandpaper. Sand evenly a little bit at a time, checking your head for flatness frequently until its perfectly flat. Depending on how much you take off this may increase your compression/psi ( just a bonus haha ) Good luck with the rebuild man !

Sea foam also works for disolving the carbon. Do not use a wire brush, screw driver, scraper, or anything metal to get it off. Maybe scotch brite or fine sand paper.

A good way for checking warpage of the head is to smear some light machine oil on the mating surface.

Place on a sheet of plate glass and view from the underside, you can see if it needs machining.

Unless you are experienced in lapping a head using the fig 8 method on wet and dry, give it a miss and get it done by a proffesional, I have seen too many heads stuffed up from inexperience.
