Just installed the toomey kit and changed all carb settings and this thing is wayyy to rich it bogs right out after i start rolling. Gunna try putting my old main jet back in to start off with , anything else i should check? :-/

yeah i was considering getting the toomey kit, so this threads gonna interest me, but i did think the toomey kit came with the jets, airbox vents and a new uni filter so it would be close to dialed in???, did you use all the parts??? try takin the airbox lid off, and make sure your carb's cleaned good, and keep doin plug reads so you dont go too lean

take the air box lid off put the 310 main in and if you have a pre 03 you have to move the needle clip up or down 1 cant remember mine is a 02 so i didnt have to move it...yes the kit comes with a new uni filter ....should run out good

Yes I did buy the kit, installed 310 main move needle clip down 1, and vented airbox. I didnt put their filter in because I already have a freshly cleaned + oiled K&N one,And moved idle screw to only 3/4 out as it said. It booged so bad once it got into the power band i had to be in 5th gear to go 25 mph. Came back , put my old 230 main jet in, moved idle screw back to stock 1 1/2 turns, fired it adjusted the idle and took it for another spin. WOW is all I can say this thing pulls and pulls and pulls, unbelieveable difference from stock pipe and no bogging down at all, even though it may still be a tad rich. This is a definate buy for any mainly stock blaster 100% need to get it! But i suggest trying just the pipe before f***ing with the carb, might end up being a waste of your time ;]

ever think that maybe the carb is dialed in right an it could be something else??? cuz now it sounds like a head problem...

I would not run it long on the 230 Jet, i would guess your running pretty lean with the K&N and Toomey Pipe.

No I never thought it would be a head problem because it ran perfect before I put the pipe on and changed carb settings. I already was running a 230 main with the K&N and the plug read with it like that was saying it was perfect. I don't see why you would have to raise jetting just because youre putting a different exhaust on? So if someone that knows what theyre talking about wants to explain to me why I would please do so.I:I Until then I;m running it as is...

yeah, id do a new plug chop, your prolly runnin lean and gonna seize it, i woulda try'd the uni filter that came with the kit too, before pullin the jet, glad to hear ya like the toomey and it pulls good, it's still in my ruuning then,
get that thing jetted right with plug chops before you blow it up

Yeah I made a typo on that one post haha I meant to say 230 was too lean , gunna run up to NA Warhorse to get some more jets to try too, between 250-300....

with that 230 it wont take long to go BOOOOOOOOOOOM put the 310 back in put the uni filter on and take the lid off....toomey knows there sh*t and they wouldnt send that stuff in the kit if it wasnt right.......just my .02

ya better not run it like that, or we'll be tellin ya "boom!!, we told ya so"
yb is right, they wouldnt sell it like that if it didnt work
and the reason for the jet change is, general rule of thumb, for "any" engine is,
if you change the airflow, into or out of an engine you have to adjust the fuel flow to match, thats why they make different jet sizes/carbs

thank you and you can also call toomey they have excellent customer support

with your set-up i wouldnt run anything less then a 280-310...but i cant give your exact jet you will have to do some testing on your own..

OK thanks for the advice guys, just to update you guys I go it working now:

Toomey with K&N ,310, 3/4 out, needle 3rd down, vented airbox = Bogging out big time
Toomey with K&N ,310, 3/4 out, needle 3rd down, no airbox lid = perfect!

Can't believe it was that simple but there ya go, just needed to suck some more air =] Thanks again for the suggestions!

sounds to me that it's the k&n that caused the probs with the toomey kit, it is designed to be used with the jet, airbox vents, and the UNI filter provided with the kit, why did you insist on using the k&n ????
