probably just some old metal starting to fatigue, with alot of HP going through it.

that transmission was out of an 04, it lasted about 6 passes.

Was that the same tranny you were running down here in September?

My bad. Where you power shifting or clutching it lmao.

This is a full blown dragger, lockup and override. Metal just fatigues over time and the same gears that are designed by yamaha to only have 17 hp thread through them are able to handle the SERIOUS power some people are able to extract out of them. I'm actually kind of impressed the transmissions don't do ^^^^ that more than they do...

Yikes, That hurts! Hopefully no other damage! Can you say SCD to the rescue!

The main damage was probably to his wallet, that looks like the engagment dogs were cut for over-ride on that gear which means a call to the racing shop is in order :(

Tater, do you know anyone who does cryogenic hardening? Tempering that particular gear and then slowly chilling the metal down to VERY cold temperatures will harden it even further than "normally" possible. May only get you a little bit harder than the factory gear but that may be the difference between stress fatigue blowing out the ass end of your case and holding together for a season or two....

If you want to salvage those cases, give your friendly neighborhood SCD racing representative a call. I'll be putting pictures of Slick's cylinder rescue up later tonight.... :D

Ever think about an override lol.
this has had an overide it in for about 4 years.this was actually a fresh one.
u had that in the dragger? hahaha yikes :o :o. dennys motors are so strong they trash transmissions!! lol ;) :D
yeah...... I:I

it was some of the same tranny..lol..only damage to the wallet was some more sets of good used ebay gears and a couple fresh carbide cutters. i mod the gearsets myself james..the drum is what is the complicated part, but i have a couple good drums here and this one sustained no damage.. those cases were repaired by my local guy and put back into use the following weekend in august, they were on it at busco..thanks for the offer though.. i am going to be getting something done with the gears over the winter, just havent decided exactly what yet.

one may think that my modding of the gears is what caused the failure, that is not the case. this was actually from a shop.the ones i have modded have never failed. i am not going to say what shop, out of repect for the guy. his overides hold up really well and who is to say that his work was the problem here. the work looked great as always and i will buy from him again. although he may not be very personable..the knowledge and quality is there.

Super looking Job! I don't understand the cutting of gears or the whole override thing but as long as you can do the work no harm no foul!

thanks man..i didnt do this repair but they guy i know is awesome at working with aluminum. the overides are fairly complicated, well the modification of the shift drum is. the gears have the dogs ramped, some dogs removed. engagement areas ramped/removed, shift forks slightly modified and a couple springs added.
