Well after having run the timing mod for a few months now I have come to the conclusion its not worth it for me. The first few times it started ok but as of late it has been a 10 kicker with the fmf pipe on it.With the toomey I was able to kickstart it a few times but the past 2 times riding I had to push start it when cold.

I went and bought 2 new spark plugs when I got home today because with it not starting cold the plug appeared to be fouled when I pulled it.

After reading the thread about 5 pistons being cheesed and someone mentioned the timing mod I decided to put my timing back stock. After putting it back stock I decided to try and kickstart it just for giggles before I put the new spark plug in. It fired up first kick on the old plug that I thought was totaly fouled.

With it back in stock position it feels like it pulls even harder with the toomey pipe on it. It also starts right up.

Anyone else run into the cold start problems with the 4 degree mod?

advanced timing can slightly change your jetting on some bikes ,sounds like you have a jetting problem .....NOT a timing problem ,specificly the pilot /slow circuit

Mine starts first kick every time. Def. get a bigger pilot jet or you could adjust your air bleed screw in to compensate for the smaller pilot. Anything under 1/2 turn out pilot is to small. Anything over 1 3/4 out your pilot jet is to big.
