im gonna push my blaster over a cliff real soon, cant drive it over a cliff cause it wont DRIVE, lol. i have posted on her a few timesnow trying to figure the problem, then i think i narrow it down, then im right back where i started. i bought a used 2000 blaster not running. brought it to a motor shop, they rebuilt it, new piston, rings, reeds, everything but carb work. i cleaned the carb myself 4 times now, took out ever jet, soaked, air blasted, checked the float. hooked everything back up. the motor starts right up, idles great, but i put it in gear and try to go and it bogs big time and dies. i dissconected the TORS using the DIY on this forum, that made no difference. i brought it back to a yamaha dealer today, they listened to it and told me something about a "safety" that is supposed to be connected to the brake missing. he told me its an electrical problem and i needed to find the two wires that used to connect to the safety and tie them together. i found an orange and plack wire with a plug on the end not connected to anything, i tied them together. STILL NOTHING. i just want to ride this thing. i've already spent a small fortune getting it running, but all it'll do is idle. if i can find an easy fix without having to spend $70/hour to have them touch it again i'd be very thankful. p.s. it has #230 main jet right now, the temp is about 68 ifthis means anything. the plug is brand new. any suggestions. anybody know anything about this brake safety thingy?

what mods do you have on the quad?.. umm i dont think the older models you need to tie the 2 wires togeather, i think he is thinking of the newer blasters.. cause i removed my tors and thats all i did and she ran just fine .. you think maybe it could be your float not giving it enough fuel?.. will it rev any when not in gear ?.. have you check to make sure your grounds are tight? ..

it revs when its in nuetral. i told him i disconnected the TORS, but he was showing me a spot near the hand brake locking area that he said shoud have had a sensor, but i dont know what he's talking about. he said its a sensor that if you have the brakes locked in place and try to drive it wont allow it to rev up and hurt the motor, he said "looks like someone disconnected it but it's still reading as locked". ??? huh ???

i have no mods on the bike. also, when i was kick starting it at the dealer, he said "your float must be too high cause its spitting fuel when your kicking".

im so confused

yeaa he has to be talking about the 03+ blaster .. umm how manny kicks did it take to get her fired up on cold start with or with out choke ?.. and when it bogged out did you check the plug to see if it was wet at all ??... is it getting good spark ?.

did you check your carb to make sure there was nothing in your bowl, like water or some thing cause my old yz did the same thing and there was some crap in te bowl evan after i cleaned it ..

took about 4 kicks to get it fired with the choke pulled all the way out. i have pulled the plug a few times and the tip is wet. nothing in the bowl, i took it off again today to check.

thanks for the replies guys, keep um coming cause im new at this. i really appreciate it

hmm idk .. its not smokeing white right? nice blue out the pipe ?.. airscrew is at stock setting right?.. you will get more replys soon it just takes a little bit lol ..

did the bike set for a while before you bought it? a friend of mines blaster was doing the same thing, starting a little rough, idling decent than stalling as he tried to go in first. it turned out a field mouse had built a nest in the exhaust pipe while it was sitting in his barn.I would take the pipe off and try running a metal hanger through to see if theres anything, and if there is pour a small amount of gas in and light.might not be your prob but worth a try

i know when i have my parking brake set on my 03 model, it wont let the engine rev up at all. that rev safety switch wont allow you to drive with the brake engaged.

JEFF!!!! you might be on to something!!!!!!!! thats what started all this. when i got it and started pulling it apart, there was a mouse nest in the exhaust port and in the top of the pipe. the machine place had to completely steam clean the whole inside of the motor. put all new parts in it. i pressure washed into the inlet of the pipe and mouse nest junk came out for about 15 minutes, then i blaster it with compressed air for nearly a half hour to dry it all out.

this could be the problem!!!! i hope i dont need to buy a new pipe, and if i do i hope it finally runs.....i WANNA PLAY, lol. thanks a bunch everybody, ill work on it again tommorow and keep ya posted.

no it doesnt have any parking brake saftey. that yamaha tech is crazy. they are on the 03-up. and as far as crap in your pipe. that is why i use a silencer plug when my blaster is sitting or in transport.

Check the screen on the fuel petcock. Mine was plugged with varnish from old fuel, had only a tiny bit of fuel going to th carb. OK when started but then died. Took it apart, soaked it in acetone and it was good to go.

Good luck

My blaster pulled some similar sh*t, i got it back from the shop HAHA YAY and then id kick it, wouldnt idle at all, it need help from my thumb, then the next day i tanked my whole motor, bottom and top end. It would start after a few kicks, wouldnt idle, and when i went to put it in first it would just bog, so id have to pull the clutch in and put a load on.

try revving the f*cking hell out of it as you take off, then lean forward and try popping the clutch, if it starts to sputter pull the clutch in again and put another load on it. Until hopefully it just rides. Sometimes you need to show these machines whos boss.

Braapbraap....thats hilarious! your username, and your post, i love it. "braaapbraaap" is the sound it should be making right? mine says braapoooo..burp lmao.

thanks guys. i poured some starter fluid into both ends and lit it up. that freaking thing stayed burning for about 15 minutes, it must have been frying some leftover mouse nest inside.....i hope. i did that a few times and now nothing else is rattling around in there or fallingout when shaken. iput the pipe and silencer (also blew it out)back on but now its 10pm, so tommorow, fingers crossed it may work. it would make sence if there was a blockage in the pipe it would be like a banana in the tail pipe (eddie murphy lol). ill let you know tommorow

First off, THANKYOU everybody for your comments and help with my first blaster. Jeff1005!!!!!!!!! you hit in on the head! i had cleaned out the pipe originally when i found the rats nest inside the exhaust port, but i guess ididnt clean it out good enough. last night i spent nearly an hour filling the pipe with starter fluid and ignighting it to burnout whatever else the mouse had left for me in there (hoping this was the problem the whole time). that thing burned for a long time. i put it all back together. this morning i went out in the cold and rain and crossed my fingers, kicked in ONCE and it fired up stronger than ever! it has more than enough power now and just wants to go, go, go. i couldn't resist so i took it out of the garage into the rain and its amazing how fast these blaster find puddles to zip through huh? its working like brand new guys!!!!

thanks a ton. now im gonna start stripping it down for some custom paint work so someday i can try the "blaster of the month" contest.
