She's finally running after a pull start from my buddy's Polaris. Idle is a little off but I'm gonna tinker with it and do the top end break-in nice and easy. I just wanted to tell any and all of you thanks for the help. I know the jist of a 2 stroke but couldn't have done all the troubleshooting without your expertise, so thanks. I'll post some wheelie vids soon. I:I and reps have been given to all of you who helped me out. I'm goin' riding, yo!

OK. It was kicking over after it got warmed up. Let it cool for a half hour and it won't kick now. It starts fine pulled behind another bike. There are a few hiccups and a little hesitation in the throttle, mostly mid to top end. It is a good feeling to at least ride it though. Any suggestions on why it won't kick over?

Mine wouldn't kick over last time I rebuilt it because the idle got messed up, try turning yours up just a bit, as for the mid range hesitation thats most likely jetting.. what are you running right now?

I'm running stock carb, jets, etc that came with it. As for the idle, should I adjust the bigger screw under the seat, pilot or idle on handlebars? The throttle air screw doesn't seat to be bacaked out 1 1\2 turns or whatever it is. Is it supposed to or not?...it just fine tunes the pilot, right. Carbs are my weakness. It seems simple enough but I'm still learning.

The knob on the top of the tors unit is the throttle adjustment, turning it left lowers the idle, right rises it.

I turned it, didn't seem to do much. I'll fiddle with the carb and throttle some more. Anyone got any ideas on why it won't kickstart?

having to pull start it is a sign of low compression....has it been rebuilt lately

Yeah, it has but it has 120+psi.

then its got to be a carb or jetting issue......120psi is about right

maybe your kickstarting gear is gone?
you should pull the cover off drain the oil first or put the quad lying on its side myt be something jus simple..
damaged pinion clip or springs broke cud be some debri in there!

It starts cold, runs fine for a few and starts backfiring mid-throttle and when I upshift. It kick started a few times on the first or ssecond kick after the first time I pull started it. Cleaned the carb, reeds are perfect, good spark, etc...

mid throttle issues usually means the needle needs adjusted. Have you done a plug check?

plug is a prett mocha brown. A little dark if anything. Rich, I guess?

you want it a tiny pit dark too be safe.

if you have the throttle stop screw turned in to much the slide will be open too far and the idle circuit wont be able to deliver fuel. ...adjust the throttle stop screw out till there is only a 1/8th to 3/16th gap between the bottom of the carb bore and the throttle slide....this will give the proper velocity/vaccum of air when kicking the engine over to suck fuel through the idle crcuit

other than that you can put your hand over the back side of the carb and kick it twice then see if it starts on the next few kicks with hand removed ( for this you would need to remove the seat and air box)




Yoa can start the thing by pulling it with another 4 wheeler because the engine is spining fast enough to increase the velocity of the air moving through the carb to a piont where it can pick up fuel.

I still believe in the above I copied from another thread you started ...why are you spreading your problem out between so many threads dude..kinda makes it hard to follow what may be wrong

Yeah, I thought so. Dark is better than light. I already ran through that lean thing with the last blown piston. lol It's backfiring really bad. I'mgonna research it a little to see what it could be as well as looking up needle adjustment. Not 100% on how to do it.

That's true sr5. I have started a few threads, huh? I'm kinda sticking with this one now that I think I have it narrowd down to a carb issue. It's just that I've had a lot of different questions and started a thread each time. Kinda new to the forum and how everyone uses it. Thanks for the advice bro.
