Swapping Out Parts 2006 to 2001

I have a 2001 Blaster that is all stock except for the muffler tip is gone and a small hole is drilled inside the silencer. I recently bought a 2006 Blaster with a locked-up motor and several aftermarket parts: razr tires, wheels, nerf bars, Pro Circuit pipe and silencer, front bumper and back lift rack. I am putting the 2006 aftermarket parts onto the 2001 and had a couple of Q's.

As I am moving the 2006's Pro Circuit pipe and silencer onto the 2001, do I need to re-jet the 2001? Also, will I need to adjust the oil injector setting at all on the 2001 for this? I prefer to keep the injector so that all our toys are simple to fill and no one can screw it up by forgetting to add premix when I am not looking.

Also I figure when I am done swapping the parts, selling a locked up 2006 may help get me back more cash than swapping motors and trying to sell a locked up 2001.

Most likely a rejet is needed. Personally i would rather have the 06 frame for all the goodies like hydro brakes. Its your choice but a motor swap is much better. The diferance in the 2 with locked up motors is very minimal. I would make the best blaster possible and then worry about getting funds back. No need to change oil injection settings. Useing that oil injection is a big mistake. Mix that gas and save yourself big money in the long run.

I think I had the impression the motors did not match electrically due to differences...I am not qualified in that area so did not want to have 2 non-running bikes by the time I finished.

And, right before I found the 2006, I ordered the hydraulic brakes sold here on this site so I am pretty heavy into the 2001. I guess if the motor swap is simple, I could try to make someone a great deal on extremely gently used hydro brake system.

I would use the 06 , even if I had to swap the stators. Look in the carb that was with the pipe, let us know what the main and pilot are. Someone will let you know if they're right or close. Odds are the 06 has less overall wear than th 01. As to the oil injection, I agree with you for keeping it in your situation. Long as you're not modding the piss out of it it's good, just use good oil and keep it full. Don't think it's adjustable. Lots of debate here about it.

As to you riding it, I'm almost old as dirt and I dig the Blaster. Home porting, ported cage, Vito's reeds, Fat Bastard pipe, rips pretty good. Rather ride that then my son's Warrior.

Also, maybe pull the head and jug off to see what the damage is. Might be able to fix it cheap.

I hear ya on keeping the 2006 but its mileage is pretty hard-earned. I started to pull the clutch case and yippee, no oil cam out...same from the drain bolt underneath. I am HOPING the PO drained it trying to figure it out before he told me this grand tale of how great it ran and it just sorta stalled one day and now he can't kick it over. Also the air filter was a disaster so that says a lot right there.

Truly I like the brake upgrades of the 2006 but for things electrical, I get this feeling I may be on the sidelines too long if things don't match up. My son doesn't care which one he rides---he just wants to be able to ride so I have to factor that in big time. It does not sound like a simple case of just swapping the motors as far as I can tell.

Got ya. Unless you need to sell it right away wait till winter to swap the other parts around. There is no way in he(( I would let those hydro brakes get away.

throw the 06 motor into the 01 frame, swap stators (01 into 06) to match your 01 wiring harness and cdi hookups,
then steal them front hydro's off the 06 onto the 01
and those 06 rear hydro's are penny candy compared to what you have now, hahahaa
my gsxr set-up

you'll add up a few coins for the remaining 06 parts, hood/headlight, spent motor/ good cases, wiring, cdi, and even the frame, i paid $150 for my 06 frame
06 rear hydro's should sale quick too
