I have a 2003 Yamaha blaster that is completely stock. I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with it but when I try to start it after it sits overnight, it takes around 30 to 40 kicks to start it. After I let it warm up it will start on the first or second kick usually. If you know what is wrong or have an idea, please tell.

I have a 2003 too and it does the same thing! Takes a sh*t ton of kicks to start it then after it warm it will kick over 1-2 kicks easy!! I try pullin the choke out all the way, then try only half and nothing, I was actually fighting with it yesterday then ended up giving up. Mine also leaks 2stroke oil and gas from the overflow lines, it didnt do this when I first got it a few months ago but it has sat and not been start for almost 2 months and I noticed it was leaking out of all the tubes!! Where does yours leak fuel??

Im no expert but when was last time u cleaned your filters? Along with carbs? Maybe a sticky float needle flooding out engine. Also does it have good compression? If compressions low real u will have a hell of a time trying to kick to start it

Well on mine, I cleaned the filter right before I rode it last, 2 months ago just about but carb needs done and will b hopefully this weekend. Compression dont kno was gonna check into it after I figure how to get and do a test correctly. My motor was completely rebuilt by a motorsports dealership before I bought it so I thought it couldnt be that but hell you never kno, is there anything else that could possibly be wrong if its not any of those??

clean the carb up, check/change the plug , do a compression check, start there if you are leaking fuel you are most likely flooding it out

If u clean carb remember were everythimg goes! Fairly easy carb to clean .i bet once u clean carb throw in freash gas it wil come to life.if it starts and quits once u give it gas check your reeds.my blaster can sit for weeks starts 2 kicks sometimes 1.but anyways go from there if ran good before put away probly just gummed up carb

But what bout all the kicks it takes to start every time since I bought it? Compression still? Or carb?

It won't hurt to do a compression test but it sounds like its not getting enough fuel. How does the plug look? When its cold it needs more fuel to start and when its warmed up it doesn't. Of course there are always exceptions but cleaning out your pilot circuit and new plug with compression test will surely narrow it down.
Also when you clean your carb be sure and spray the bowl out where the choke picks up fuel as well as cleaning the choke circuit itself.

Yes sounds to me like its starven for fuel, clean and remove all jets.freash fuel .new plug .try it if compressions low it will be hard to start by kicking.if u said a year ago give or take compression was 110 not bad but could be half your problem.how easy is it by foot to kick? Doea it feel easy or ruffly around same? It wouldnt hurt to check by testing with a gauge

Clean the carb. How to vid in the link in my signature. Sounds like your compression is running low. Thats how my banshee got for the last few rides before it wouldnt start at all.

Well its hard to kick over, I have to like jump on it to do it lol standing an just kickin it never works cant get it to actually go right to get a good full kick, you kno what I mean? So I like kinda stand then put all my weight on the kicker (by then practically standing on the kicker) an do a lil jump move, so to me it seems like the compression is good but then I again I dont really kno jack..... As for the carb, I actually did watch your video jlsparky :) though Im still gonna have my bf's dad help me cuz I really dont wanna f*** it up, still learning and knowing my luck Il forget something!

Is there somewhere I can buy a compression test or do I have to make one, havent checked the plug yet will do so tomorrow before work!

How much do u way? Cause if u arr haveing that hard of a time kicking it over seems to be more than a carb issue.idk i could be wrong shouldnot be that hard to kick over

im thinking low compression. Dont wanna start with low comp until you have moved the piston up and down to reseat the rings. Then when warm and everything is expanded in the cylinder, she will start up first kick.

I would start by cleaning carb new plug some new gas and try it if still acting up hit back the forum go from there
