Starter clutch play?

Should their be play in the starter clutch?
Theres a good amount of play even when its set into place with the spring in.

The kickstarter is after wearing a nice divit in the clutch cover :-[ Never even noticed untill I went to change the oil. :-[
Checked the spring, it's set into its place good.
I tried turning the kickstarter back a few splines but as soon as I tried to tighten the nut it slipped back against the clutch cover again.

I'm stumped.

Does anyone have any pics of the assembly handy?
The manual picture seems different than mine.

Mine has a some thing like a steel bushing with a tab, it's cracked and the splines underneath are bad. Was just wondering if someone rigged mine or if the manuals detail is a bit iffy.

The tab labeled 7 in the pic keeps coming out of its place in the case as soon as I put any pressure on the kicker.
I'll definitly need a new shaft...

on my 06 it had what your talking about because #7 was worn badly from improper installation, replaced that and it was good to go

if your splines are shot, you'll need a new assembly,
i have a complete assembly in my stash, holler if no one else doing part outs on here has one for ya

I've seen some clutch covers with that problem before but never saw the culprit. I have a kicker assembly with bad threads if you want it. everything else on it is tip top send it to ya for shipping about 10 bux. damn it your in ireland so it probably wouldn't be worth it. I dont' know it if i have a good clutch cover..... I have one about 3/4 the way pollished if you want to drop a little extra money
