im loooking for a good detailed DIY or just a good thread on splitting the cases, im pretty confident, certified Ford mechanic but i just wanna make sure, never takin one of these apart, i dont like messing with trannys, its not my thing.... ;)

ANY SUCH THING?

go to youtube and search for the rockymountain atv videos, ....(2 stroke bottom end rebuild) i think, you'll find them, but i watched it, and decided it wasnt worth buying the hundred and sum dollars of special tools, (flywheel puller, crank puller, clutch holding tool, am i missing something else???) and all the gears shy'd me away
so took it to my dealer with all my new parts and they reassembled it for $110

well, the tools part really wont affect me, i have alot invested in different pullers and holders and the clutch basket holder they show for atvs, looks very similar to the one the trrans guy at work has, so im sure ill be able to scavenger up some pullers and holders, as well as a press. i just dont want a bundle of shafts and drive gears falling out on me

yea i wanna do this too, right now i have the head off and sent to flotek, the clutchcase cover off, and the stator cover off..i just bought a flywheel remover, but i cant get the stator off..im thinking of giving up

haha thats exactly where im at, but i purchased mine like that, i have yet to jump into it at all. i bought it with both covers and cylinder off. so i guess we'll see

Splitting the case is not very hard . you need to have a Flywheel puller and a puller to press the crank out. I used a harmonic balancer puller that i got from Harbor freight it work good and it is cheap.

the tranny is 2 sets of gears that will not fall apart since that are held on the rods with clips.

i would get a manual for a little help. there is that online one but i think it is crap.
if you have any questions i can help. i have one split now waiting on my cylinder to get back form wildcard so i can match the case to the cylinder.

well thanks, if i have any troubles ill just shoot you a pm with pics or something. i bought it dissassembled and im trying to figure out whyyy?? the previous owner couldnt tell me who or why they took it apart...he bought it that way. so far, the cylinder looks great and piston is in great shape, crank is still toiiight like a toiger. i wish i could it out quick

ooh the damn stator comes off with those screws? lol thats why i couldnt get the flywheel off..i couldnt hold the stator to get that nut off..hmm maybe ill try this again then

and do you absolutely need something to take the crank out? i just want to replace the damn gaskets

what gaskets are you replacing? the only gasket is the one on the clutch cover.
there is a rubber seal on the flywheel side.

the cases are put together with hi-temp gasket maker.

the flywheel should come off with the fly wheel remover, do not remove the screws around the outside of the flywheel these hold the magnets to the flywheel.

if you want to split the case you should use some kind of press to get the crank out like that blancer puller that i used.

or you can put a piece of wood up to the crank and hit it but i would not suggest this way.

the bearings arent that tight a fit on the cranks, usually when you pull the cases apart the pto side will come right out if not the whole bearing will come out on the crank, then youll need a bearing splitter,if you have access to a shop press you can just press the one side out.

you dont want to hammer on the crank at all,it could bend the shaft and youll never get the crank true again.

you sound like your close to me in toledo. i am too splitting my cases and have bought the impact screwdriver the flywheel puller and the clutch hub holder tool if you were close enough to come borrow em you could. im in maumee less than one mile off 23
