i recently bought another blaster it a 97 runs and cranks great but the guy i got it from had a FMF gold series header and a stock silencer. like i say it runs good it not the fastest but runs good until 4th and 5th gear then it completely looses power you can only run about half throttle or she dies. any idea on what it could be? i have cleaned the carb and air filter.

The first thing you should do when you get a used 2 stroke, is a leak down test.
Then a compression test.
Then check if it has been jetted for the pipe.

i figured it was the jetting because the guy said he changed the exhaust from an aftermarket one to a stock one but he never mentioned changing jets or anything but i dont know for sure
Check the jets, you should have at least a #260 - #270 in there, and do a plug chop.
I would do a leak test just to make sure it is not sucking in unwanted air.

#240 main is too small, for a FMF.
If you have the airbox lid on slip in a #270 and plug chop.
#260 with the lid on.
If you premix at 32:1 add one size main.
