Silencer Repacking?

i have a pc silencer and i was wondering how you know when you need to repack?
what is the reason to repack? does it give more performance?
another thing, if i do repack im gonna use the fmf repacking, ive never done it before but is it just the same way as repacking with steel wool? because there is no DIY for repacking, only for steel wool

pretty sure its the same thing for packing with steel wool. and the purpose of packing is to quiet it down and i belive there is a small performance gain not to sure about that though

alot of companies say to repack the silencer after 10 hours of use...on my trail bikes i would do it once a year...quiets it down and slightly improves performance.

you have to take the pipe apart and wrap the packing tight around the inner tube

It gives a slight increase in performance because the packing will get dirty over time and not flow as well, or break down and it will start to get louder.

it also give's you a bit of back pressure there for giving you a bit more performance

if its stock its actually a spark arrestor...those have no packing to be replaced...no need to worry.

Depends on if you want that little bit of performance gain and if you wanna quiet it down. If you said yes to both then repack. if one applys its up to you. if none then dont. simple enough lol
