Hey, so I have a 2006 Yamaha Blaster, and I can’t decide if I should mod it, or sell it for a yfz450. Currently my blaster has vforce 4 reeds, and a full Fmf exhaust system, I’m torn between it because I’m not sure if it’ll be worth dumping money into it, to mod it. Any opinions?

Depends on what you are looking for. The 450 is a better bike all the way around in my opinion, but riding style will play a huge factor. The money it would take to get the blaster on the same playing field as a stock 450, would more than likely cost more than a 450 dependent on fab skills. The cool factor of having a super custom blaster though, priceless.

I find myself in total agreement with acdiez once again.

I would add that in order to put a Blaster on par with a 450 in power, you are looking at a 250 2-stroke bike engine swap....and that's not even addressing chassis/suspension upgrades/customization to make it ride and handle like a 450. Modded Blasters are cool as hell, but if your budget is limited, the best solution is probably going to be to sell the Blaster and get your 450.

Oh boy I wish, lol. Unfortunately every trx 250r that’s showed up in my area is 15 grand, would be pretty hard for a 15 year old to come up with that money, lol

Yeah, they have gone up a lot in price over the last several years, just like the three wheelers.

They top out around 8k where I am in Ohio, and thats still steep for my 37 y/o self.

I agree unless you have the fab skills to do a lot of work yourself and make your own parts. I’m currently doing a 250 swapped blaster and long traveling it and I’m doing it in a budget (the budget that I sold my 450 for plus about 800$) and it’s definitely doable if your able to make your own extended swing arm and steering stem and everything like I am.

Just depends on what you want. Me personally, my 450 had a 500 big bore and a cam and it ran like a raped ape but everytime I got on my dads 250r I got a smile on my face even though it is slower than my 450.

So I decided to build the quad Yamaha never made but should’ve, a trx250 competitor.
