well my shift shaft seal is starting to leak and im gonna have to replace it before sunday. so is it just a pop the old one out and the new one right in or do i need to take the side case off to put it in?

thanks freek it looked that way but wanted to make sure. is there supposed to be some inside to out play in the shift shaft because mine does

The shift shaft isn't anchored to anything so it is possible to have a little wiggle i'd assume. Should there be wiggle? Probably not.

It may be easier to pop the clutch cover off and pull the shift shaft straight out and then put the seal in.It can be done no problem with it in but can be frustrating to remove it and get it set in correctly with the shaft in the way.Either way it's a simple fix.

Yip even this begginer did it! Use a drywall screw if it's stuck in there but don't dig it out- or it won't seal right

Appears my seal is leaking as well. Is there a write up on this somewhere that I haven't found?

Can't sayyou didn't search. Not aware of a write up, though I would think it's covered in either a Clymers or the download manual (hint ;)).

Remove stator cover, clean shift shaft and around seal. Use one or two drywall screws run into the metela part of seal to pull it. Don't run them in far, only couple threads. Use plyers on screws to pull seal. Wrap shaft with masking tape to protect seal. Pack inside of seal with grease. Slide seal on shaft then use pipe, tubing or what ever to lightly drive seal in. Make sure you are only driving on the metal part of seal. If you don't have tube, pipe, etc. you can use a pin punch, tapping lightly around the seal so as to drive it squarely into case. Set seal flush with case, don't overdrive it. A very simular method can be used on other seals.

There, now YOU have a write up on how to !! I:I
