Use Yamabond or Tribond sealer.
Do NOT use RTV or silcone sealer or gasket maker or any other substitute.

how about Three Bond silicon liquid gasket 1211 and does the sealant go on both sides of the cases

Just one side is fine but due to the nature of it you can put it thin on both sides with no harm.
Put it on immediately before assembly, no pre-dry time needed and it sets up slowly, so no race to assemble.

Sorry, "ThreeBond" ia a company name just like "Yamaha" and they sell a pile of products.
Bike shops around here all carry tubes of ThreeBond 1104 and we just refer to it as "Tribond".
Yamabond 4 case sealer at the Yamaha dealership looks like the exact same stuff out of the tube.

You are provoking me into another long winded explanation... :)

What you need to seal the cases has to resist oil and fuel, and be thick enough to fill gaps but thin enough not to extrude.
None of the 1200 series sealers are fuel resistant, neither is the RTV you buy at the hardware store or most silicone products.
TB1104 goes on thin, seals everything, is tenacious and yet cleans off well.
Accept no substitutes!

This is a copy and paste from ThreeBond's website about 1194, same as 1104:

ThreeBond 1194 is a semidrying liquid gasket whose major component is special synthetic rubber. After it is applied and dried, it will form a rubber-like elastic body. Since it excels in padding property, it shows a high sealing effect on bonded surfaces that have poor flatness and large clearance. In addition, it has excellent resistance to water, oil and gasoline.

High padding property
It shows an excellent sealing effect not only on normal bonded surfaces, but also on bonded surfaces with large clearance.
Excellent resistance to vibration and impact
After applied and dried, it will form a rubber-like elastic body and exhibit excellent resistance to vibration and impact.
Excellent resistance to high and low temperatures
It keeps stable rubber elasticity in a wide temperature range from -40°C to 150°C.
Excellent resistance to water and oil
Effective in preventing leak from threaded portions
Sealing of flange surfaces and threaded portions
Applicable to sealing of flange surfaces having large clearance
For sealing other coolants.
