RPM GAUGE

well could i hook some type of a rpm gauge.I thought maybe a atv shop or some places that might have one.Hey would i have to ask for a single cylinder rpm gauge or something like that thanks.

first question :other than the novelty of the idea of seeing numbers dance across a tiny led when you wick the throttle , why do you care what your rpms are on your bike ? second question: do you realize the vapors rpm gage are completly inaccurate and read several thousand revolutions higher than it actualy is right?

while i normally don't disagree with someone who obviously knows more than me I sold my unit for the exact reason you've stated Flo but at the same time unless it was pure coincidence my rpm gauge at idle ( the only time I ever saw it ) was spot on when properly tuned...but i do have to say its pure novelty at best...

im not going to be using a digital rpm gauge.just a standard stick tach it should work if it's a single cylinder tach i just want to know were to get one.

sure i coudl see it could be accurate at idle or while its slow and signal is easy for it register.. but that doesnt mean it was accurate at peak though
just heard too many that read 12 grand with just a toomey pipe and filter kit on them lol

it would have to be a 2 stroke single cylinder as well. 4 strokes fire every other revolution while 2 strokes fire every revolution so a 4 stroke gage on a 2 stroke would read twice as fast as what it's actually doin. so maybe if you got one for a 2 cylinder....

Since I'm not an engine guy can you explain why this gauge would be any less accurate on a blaster then the 20+ people I know who have them on dirt bikes and sv650? Every single person I've talked to personally or have read have mentioned that they can get near gps verified accurate speed and have had no problems with accurate rpm monitoring. The sv650 is rev limited at 10.5krpm.

All of these people have had 4 strokes but I don't see that being an issue? The gauge allows for .5/1/2 PPR setting and has a setting to alter PPR based on RPM as well. Also, I noticed sometimes people confuse the endurance and the vapor models. The endurance model isn't something I would use as it isn't even water proof. The vapor unit is guaranteed against damn near every but pressure washing.

Guess I'll find out for myself in a couple of days.

dont have an ansewer for you bud but on a banshee they are a mile off and i wouldnt expect them to be much better on a blaster either way its a plastic novelty item not afine tuning device

I had a little lcd tach on my go kart. It had a ring that you put around the spark plug. Im sure you could pick up one like that for about 20 bucks. It was on a yamaha 100 2 stroke engine that I ran in my cart.

You can also get an heat temp gauge that fits around the spark plug. Just go to your auto parts store or go to a vw bug website and order a head temp gauge with sender.

yeah I don't doubt they could be off at higher rpm's, like I stated above I bought it thinking how cool it would be to tell how fast I was going till I found out that in order to mount it and look at it Id be taking my eye off the prize and more than likely putting myself or other riders at risk, i only used it to help as another "tool" to tune the idle circuit...

you guys have put lots of efert givein me tips thanks a hole lot i think i might try to find one that goes on the spark plug. But how accurate are those tachs.

next time im at fleet farm im gonna look and see if they have 2 stroke tacks.. i know they have speedo's and hour meters for atv's so ill see if they have amechanical tach.. i looked at some digi ones online. didnt like the delay in tach readings.. i want something that is real time not 2 second intervols

Got the Vapor setup on the blaster and the rpm gauge seems to work fine. Position wire hooked up to coil and negative grounded to frame near the front. On a full throttle pull the gauge marks the power band pull at around 4200-4500rpm and feels like it falls out at around 8000rpm. When the gauge reads about 8800-9000rpm the engine is pretty much done. These are consistent numbers with no variations.

Does that seem right? New to the blaster and not sure how accurate these sound.
