my buddy wants to sell me his 96 rm 250 and buy a four stroke. he likes to putt around so it's ok haha. but he says it needs seals in the forks, something is wrong with the timing (i'm hoping flywheel key), jetting is off, and he thinks it needs rebuilt again although he just threw new rings in it last year and has barely ridden it. its real clean tho. he said he'd like to get $800 out of it, but will let me tear it apart, check it over and see what its worth. only problem is idk what a 96 rm 250 would go for in good condition so idk what to tell him. also i have the money to buy it but dont' know whether or not i'll be able to get a job this summer so idk if i should buy it and fix it up or not.... advice?

you are getting a good deal, i would give him 600. fork seals are like 30, but you should probly get a fork rebuild kit for it, just because its so old. thats like 60 from ebay. And you can probly get a top end kit with gaskets for like 120 off ebay too. It was a pretty good year for them, it might feel top heavy though becuase of the conventional forks on it though

well my buddy bought his for 500, and it runs and drives great, it f*ckin rips and ive only seen it on the street for like a block and a half, it does need new brake pads, a silencer, kill switch and new back tire
