So I went on a long trail ride this morning. Second one on the rebuilt blaster. So everythings goin fine and rode fine yesterday about 40 miles and then my motor just turns off ... loses complete power in the powerband in third gear and rolls to a stop. I get off inspect everything, no visible leaks, nothing is lose, wiring looks good. So I kick it over, starts second kick, idles fine etc. I turn around as I';m about 25 miles oiut and start headin back to the house. Well on the way back I kinda forget about the issue as everythings rockin along, hit a semi big jump, land in a puddle that pretty much soaks the bike and it does the exact same thing. This time I was in fourth. Thinking I should get home with it I kick itover this time it starts third kick ...rides home fine. Get it in the garage and it kicks over first kick, idles fine etc. So I'm kinda at a loss of what to check. So yesterday the temp had dropped and I was going up about a thousand feet in elevation so I bumped up my main one. But it rode fine and I figured if anything I'd just be safe a little on the rich side. Could it be I fouled the plug? Is this what would happen. Gonna pull the tank and do a plug check but just curious if anyone has any advice or what to check next if this isn't the issue.

well, I was thinking maybe it just got wet then kicking it sparked it ... I could be way off though, next will be to check my electrical thanks though. Thats just the only change I've made so am kinda at a loss??

So you changed the jet to ride yesterday and it rode fine you say.

Could you have had a fuel issue that was fixed when you dropped the bowl off the carb to change the jet?

Nah, it wasn't a bowl issue, I had tuned it ninety degree weather and then it sat for a month so when I went out in 60 degree weather yesterday I upped the main to be safe. Rode fine before and rode fine yesterday all day didn't happen till about 60 miles of riding after switching mains. Also it's a brand new carb so don't think any issues there. I was tossin it around pretty hard when it happened, but will still start up fine, idle great, and run. I have not pulled the plug though since I changed jets. It could be a bad connection getting made somewhere as well though. I don't think it has anything to do with my actual engine as it is running fine. It's gotta be spark, or electrical. Just thought maybe someone had experienced something similiar to point me in the right direction before I start fiddlin with sh*t.

Although the Blaster has only a few wires, a small earthing issue can create major electrical problems. Start with your earth points.

Four letter word TORS is yours disabled or removed?

Removed,, but I'm wondering if the wires are not making a good connection where they are it's 03-06 so can't be fully removed.

Trust me i'll be checking, and I'll get back hopefully I find it

check them tors wires, the stator connections above the kicker, and your ground at the coil
also, not that this has anything to do with this, but..........
correct me if im wrong, richen the main for the cooler temps, but you lean it for higher elevations

You guys are all right about jetting but the temp outweighs the elevation gain here for a few reasons which is just why one bump in the main to be safe and on the rich side. I am going to check floats, good idea. Plug is not soaked so that is not it. There was some powdercoating still where things ground so cleaned that up and will take it out tommorow, it only did it after riding awhile and I only got like 20min to ride after doin the work, so hopefully that was it ... lost the spark? I'll check the floats next if it happens again

hows that plug boot and wire ????
and change that plug to be sure, oil gets up inside the porcelien and electrode, making it spark inside when fouled, but not visible

Mine did the same thing a while back. I pulled my hood and found one of the terminals was plugged in but not making good contact. Would run great for several full throttle runs ans just die and start right up.

Sounds like possibly the coil going brutha, I've had gone through a couple bad coils last couple years, one with similar issue. The secondary was the issue with all three of them.

I have had this exact thing happen on my Can AM DS250. My kids were riding hard and hit a large puddle and it quit. I got it running without doing anything special and it happened to me hitting some water. I looked up at the spark plug boot and it was all wet and looked funny. The boot wasn't clamping on the plug tightly and I'm guessing it pushed off when hitting the water and the way the plug wire was curved it had slight down pressure to make it look like it was down all the way. I just squeazed the clamp a little and put some dielectric grease up in the boot and so far it hasn't repeated itself.

Greasin the boot is a must! Forgot about that one!

So I made sure all the PC was gone at the grounds. Checked all connections, Did a plug chop which was good, put in a new spark plug and did a 60 mile trail ride this morn with no problems, so hopefully somewhere in there the problem is gone. Just curious though, the coil from an 88-02 is different from 03-06 are they interchangeable because I have one laying around and will switch it out next if the problem re-occurs.

I know they are different part numbers, and i have used a coil form an 03+. It ran fine until the secondary side went out just like the others. I have had no luck with stock coils. I decided to make a new wiring harness and add a couple extra grounds. That is the only thing i can think of. Oh ya- and I also just installed new stator coils too. Maybe the moisture was your issue?
