reving crazy high!

does it keep running after you shut it off for a few sec?

if so, this could mean you have a cracked reed, and this would let a lean amount of gas (probably no oil in it when it seeps through) and when your engine gets hot, it ignites the lean gas and over-revs to burn it off, so if you have the stock reeds, their chances of getting cracked are higher than a carbon reed valve as well

if it isn't running after you turn it off, chances are it is the TORS, there is a DIY for removing your TORS

or it could be an air leak, or it could be blown seals, or it could be..... lets get a little more info on this topic
whats done to the quad, does this happen instantly, etc.

oh an in dudes signature it sez that his tors is removed everybody!

yay mine does the same thing. when i start it up it will run fine for about 2 min and then it wont go back down. now idk if it could be because its cold or what but i have to look at everything b4 i go buying new stuff

my cousin bout a brand new 01 blaster back in fall of 2000, that winter on a brand new bike the head gasket went bad and it did this "would progresivly idle higher" I replaced the metal head gasket for him and it was good to go,,, never did have the problem again and never had this with mine, but just to let you know of a similar experience.

My 1993 blaster did this but it reved so high i pulled the spark plug cap off and it still did not stop running. Since it was just a project i had no oil in the gas and i had the chain on but no master link so i put it up aganst the wall and kicked it into gear then the chain fell off....Still reving wide open with no resistance on the engine so i just ran out of the garage hoping for the best lol. It eventually stopped after running for 2min wide open. tore it apart and the piston was fine it was a close one! turned out it was a air leak

ok so it might be a head gasket, and i'm going to google now,
so do you think i should try to ride it out once, but that is dangerous. "thanks for the help so far"

DONT RIDE IT! it is leaning out and is very bad for a motor, faster blaster i know what ya mean I'v put the slide in backwards in the carb and had it stick wide open,,, scary isnt it " knowin yur bike is about to go" dropin it in gear was a good idea, next should be kill the gas, and wire, I even ripped the line off once, and yea the reason yurs stayed on and reved is because the lean mixture made it hot enuf that it did not need the spark, you probly got that though. could even have had some kinda carbon spot that created a hot spot and encouraged the burn.

so how exactly should i do this? start the motor then spray starting fluid, but its already reving high (maybe have a friend spray while i get ready to shut it off or what?

mmmm, I would start out actually with a sight and feel test see if you can notice a leak, and you dont want it revin to high, i would go with a heavy soap water mix myself I cannot remember how i diagnosed it back then it seems like i could kinda hear it sucking air but that was on a stock bike a pipe may make it harder to hear, also make sure its not aorund you reeds or something like a cracked intake boot "they get old and dryrot , also you are sure it is high reving and not somehting like an exaust leak that gets louder with back pressure? wouldnt think but just checkin.

you should check to make sure your carb slide is all the way down and didn't get stuck from a lil bit of dirt or something.. then check your reeds to make sure they work fine, then i would go to the head gasket.

I had the same problem on my 03 i had to put new reed gaskets in it and that fixed the problem..

i just got a stock pipe and i dont hear any air leaks....is there any thing that could be just stuck? simple as that or is that out of the question?
how do i inspect reeds what do i look for? i know i sound retarded but i am new to this DIY stuff.
