Hey guys, i bought a 96 blaster last summer, and blew it up going up the mountain. I bored it to .40 over and got a new piston, it runs great now, but a month ago i was riding, pulled in the clutch, and it went out. I tore it somewhat apart and the push rod is broken.

Anyways, i saw a 00 blaster on craigslist for 200 bucks. looks nice, has some super swampers and bunch of new parts. the guy rode it for 15 mins after buying it and seized it. I took it home, tore it down and found out it wasn't seized. the skirt broke on one side, and it wont turn over because some of the skirt is down in the crank. How can i clean this perfectly, because i know any residue will kill my engine. I was planning on putting the jug and piston from my older quad to the new one. and why would the skirt break? any help would be appreciated.

Also, the guys who bored it out told me to put an oil block-off kit on it and mix my gas, i haven't put the kit on it, but i have been mixing the gas 52:1.

most likely reason the piston broke was excessive piston clearance. creating 'piston slap'
to get all the pieces of the skirt out, youre gonna have to fully disassemble and split the cases
52:1 for you mix? you meant 32:1 right???

No idea bout the skirt or nothings im not a blaster expert however 52:1 is incorrect could cause you some serious problems if you block it off an it isnt oil injected anymore you need 32:1 premix

I was doing 31:1 then my dad said to do 52:1. and how do u get piston slap? boring an engine and not getting the correct piston? and i was thinking that, but hoping i wouldnt have to... because i dont have a flywheel puller. My buddy does, and if i did tear it apart, would i have to replace the gasket? or is it re-usable like the ones on my jug/head. and so i guess ill start mixing it 32:1... lol. it ran fine 52:1 and when i first mixed it after the rebuild, about february. (still about a foot of snow on the ground) it fouled a plug. But also for the first 5-10 hours on the fresh rebuild i took it very very easy, not revving it, or having the throttle wide open

32:1 is where you should be.

Piston slap is caused by wear, either the jug or the piston is worn beyond specs.

All gaskets should be replaced with new ones.

You will need a case splitting tool as well as a flywheel puller.

After a fresh rebuild there is a heat cycling proceedure that must be done before you ride it.

when you run the ratio high like that youre running it lean. more gas, less oil. i myself run 32:1 with no problems even in the winters up here in vt. i jet up to a 290-300 when the weathers in the 20's but still mix 32:1.

piston slap is usually a sign of wear or an improperly matched bore. meaning a bore job without a piston in hand to go by. the standard clearance for piston to wall clearance is in the downloadable Blaster Manual. (ill post a link) it has all your specs and clearances.

How much is a case splitter? and where do i get a cheap one?

And also have the specs or the box the piston came in such as wiseco.

Ebay is a good place to shop for new and used tools.
