got it running with the motor work done and went 14-40 but now i need a little shorter gears for heavy trails, which rear sprocket goes good with a 14 like 38 or 36? someone let me kno
i dont want it like 13-40 (stock) not that short but just a little more lift thru each gear

oh yeah haha thanks bd27 rears backwards..

and im not being picky you fool im getting my bike dialed for my riding style.. you kno exactly how i want it to ride and perform

with my mods i have 14 40 and i love it. but i also have a 41 rear and am goin to put that on for some 22" tires i have. btw i have 18" rears now

i was going to try 14-42 anyone use this w/ similar mods?

Yeah, I have 14-42 on my son's race quad. I originally put on the 42 looking for a bit more of a holeshot. Worked ok, but the gears were a bit close together and I found that although he was spanking it pretty hard, he would get left a little behind on the straights. Now I've added a bit more motor to take care of the grunt work and gone to a higher gear ratio by adding a 14 because it was cheaper than a rear.

gears ratio
13/40 3.08 stock
13/42 3.23
14/42 3.00
14/40 2.86

As you can see, the 14/42 is almost exactly the same as stock, just slightly higher to squeak out a bit more speed. BTW, if you are really looking for power (for climbing hills) instead of speed, I think you will like the 13/42. For any other ratios you might want to try, check out this handy dandy ratio chart at renthal.com.

Just figure every 3 teeth on rear equals 1 tooth on front. I'm in the process of changing gears to dial my quad in right now. I'm gonna have a gear setup for the dunes, hill climbing, flat tracking, rock climbing etc...

wow ok royalt67 thanks for the answer man i gave you some rep..

yeah i think i may stay at 14-40 as i didnt really get to ride very long/hard to test the ratios to there limits. i love the higher speed and its prob better than switching gears so much. i just dont think ill ever use 6th ! haha oh well

thanks guys

i think if you want more gear in the woods go down a tooth cause we dont ever get out of third. but when we hit the road im gonna pull on the top hard..
and i need to correct myself i run a 14-39.
