rear light wiring

i have a simple question.. if i were to just remove the rear breaklight from my blaster would i mess with the rest of the wiring on my bike? i remember when my dad had a blaster i decided to remove the breaklight and from then on we couldnt use the key to start it.. i would like the breaklight gone but still able to use the key.. thanks
