Well took the plunge and stripped down the blaster this evening in preparation to throw all the new parts I’ve got stockpiled. As a curiosity I decided to compression test it before I get started and either my gauge is off or this poor girl had seen more damage then I originally thought. Was running decently when she’d warm up but took a while to get started and wouldn’t run very good until about 10 min. of warm up. Gauge is also chepo so don’t even know if I trust it, guess we’ll see after I’m done. Definitely looks like she needs a rebuild. Probably only runs decent when it’s hot because everything is finally sealing somewhat.. just a thought I guess. I’ll be watching your progress.. what did you use for uploading pics.. everytime I try it says to large of file… ‍

I’m posting from my iPhone, when you go to add them from your library select what ones you want to upload then down at the bottom it says “show selected” after that in the bottom right is “actual size” and you can choose to reduce the size so it’s not too big

Pulled everything apart down to the bottom end, checked crank bearing for up and down play with nothing obvious wrong I started re-assembly, like a noob put the piston on first just to take it back off and put the piston through the top of the jug like needed

Lookin good so far. Your just putting on a new piston and rings to see if that’s the issue?

I had a spare head/jug that I sent off before I started tearing into it this is the fresh jug ported by KOR for 93, going for an aggressive trail quad

KOR milled and re-chambered head also put on, then torqued everything down after I got to this point starting with the bottom jug bolts at 18 ft/lbs and the head studs to 20 ft/lbs

Topped off with VForce 4 reeds, pro-design manifold and a kehin 34mm PJ carb, shout out to Awk08 for jetting recommendations because it took no time at all to start up, did probably 5 kicks with no throttle before I gave it a little gas and she came alive

That’s awesome! Pretty sweet engine mods! I have been kicking around engine mods myself. I just did an overhaul of my blaster, well now my daughters. But we did all handling, braking and suspension upgrades first. I have owned the 99 since new. But I think engine mods are in the future! You should get a video of it running.

I will try to figure out best way to get a video up, still breaking her in for now but at half throttle it’s wanting to pull the front end up. When I bought this 06 it was completely stock except the kid I got it from had put the pipe on it, I started out with suspension/geometry first also and it made a world of difference, running the diamond J widening kit with trx450 shocks up front, threw a 400ex shock with KOR bushings on the back and did the hub swap so I can run YFZ/raptor rims in the rear. So sitting at +6 on the front and +2 on the rear, might end up swapping the axle eventually but for now I’m very happy with how it rides in the trails

It defiantly looks good! So nice you got the hydro brakes already.. I still have one bracket to fab, than wait till friend returns from vacation to get it to the shop and weld..

just get a YouTube video. Always works.

No sent the cylinder jug and head off to Ken Oconner Racing and he did a port job and bore. So new piston in a fresh hole. Also have learned the cheapo harbor freight compression tester doesn’t work so that “60 psi” was not correct

That’s almost funny . I’ve heard of people testing them on different engines, it always reads 60psi
