my atv will not start. and i've kicked it over and neutral and its stayed on then quickly shuts off and will not start again. Theres spark, theres air flow, the carbs clean, i was wondering if the 1998 yamaha blasters had an automatic fuel shut off becasue it looks like it does and i think thats the problem any ideas how to fix it?

Also, one time a little black smoke flew out the silencer then a popping noise.

It doesnt have an auto fuel shut off.

Your fuel is gravity fed from the petcock to the carb. The device on the top of the carb is called the TORS and it can stop spark from happening if its malfunctioning.

Your issue is probably with the TORS unit. If fuel flows freely from the line that goes to the carb from the petcock below the fuel tank, your issue isnt fuel. Its electronic.

Do a search for "Tors Delete" and see if you can find a writeup and follow it to override the TORS and see if you can get the thing to start.

there is no shut off the low oil light is just to let you know the oil is getting low,

read post #2 from luni and go from there

i went too the "tors delete" thread and followed the pictures and learned that my previous owner already took the tors system out. so are there any other suggestions of what i could do

are you sure the float needle seat is clean and clear and all the jets are clean and clear, take the fuel line off at the carb and turn the petcock on and see if you have a good stream of fuel, if you do i bet something in the carb is gunked up, if it doesnt flow good from the petcock take the petcock off the bike and clean the screen on it and take the petcock apart and make sure its not plugged

yeah i took the fuel line out of the carb yesterday and turned teh fuel on it was flowing fine no problems. i have spark and recently cleaned air filter i still dunnno what the problem is

take the carb completely apart i mean everything that can come off or apart do it and soak/clean it over night then blow everything out with air

the backfiring part is leading me to say, check your flywheel key to see if it sheared, you may have fuel and spark, but if it's firing at the wrong time it wont run

but all of the above info should be checked also, if you can, crack the screw where the overflow hose comes out to see if fuel keeps running out of it, if so the float valve should be ok
