I'm still a bit undecided on getting a yz400/yz465 or just maxing out the yfs200. I think the yz would have more potential. I will do all the fab myself. what would everyone do?

if you could git a '79 like paulie then i'd go that way but if i found a 465 fer cheap, or cheaper i'd git that bore it, aftermarket reeds, heavier clutch components pipe, and let flotek mod the crap outa it

I will most likely go that way. Mr_3_0_5 is making around 40hp with all his mods. I believe the yz400 makes around 40 stock. I figure any motor worthy of the blaster has to be a 2 stroke, not many to work with that are fast and air cooled.

i would say it depends on how long you have been riding and what you have done to your bike now. if you've been riding for a number of years and have a lot of modifications done to you quad (which it doesn't really look like) or if you have a lot of experience with other faster quads, then go for the yz400.

if this is your first quad and you've only been riding a year or two and it's not modded to that much, then i would put a little money into it, to show yourself what kind of things do what to an engine, and how much more horsepower a motor is capable above stock. unless you are completely unlike me and don't care about any of that.

the blaster can get expenisve to try and extract big power out of ,but the big bore yz will need some investment as well and the carb porting and especially your pipe setup will make or break it

It seems dollar for dollar I could get a complete dirtbike 1,000 or less. I did see one motor go for 300 all it needed was a bore job. If i throw a BB kit pipe and a carb on the 200 it would be around the same price maybe still with less power.

i say if you wanna go that big(the 400)get something up to date like a cr500or something, your gona have to fab to fit either of them n e way

the blaster deserves a chance, there is a lot of power to be had, i have seen one whoop a raptor 660, so you know you can get power from it, just depends how deep your pockets are....

I'd stick with the blaster motor. Parts are easy to get and no need to fab up a pipe. What you really need to do is throw a leg over a fully modded blaster and see how you like it.

i wish i lived a lil closer to you 245stroker, i'd love to see what that quad of yours will do...but then i would have to spend a bunch more money on mine !~!!! haha..so maybe its better off i never rode yours !
anyhow..i do agree with stroker, and hickskateboarder...blasters are well worth it of you have the time and $ and like to do projects .

I'd just reach a lil farther in the pockets and stick with the 200, its alot funner seeing and reaching the potentials of a 200, then the 400's and so on, you already know what your gonna get in the end!! Good Luck!

i think its a stupid question y spend all that work and money to fab a bigger motor into a blaster... just buy a bigger quad. the only reason i see anyone doin that is if they have that much time on there hands and had the motor for free.

Work and money not really. I'm 19 and broke. Time is no issue, Id rather spend years on a project then have to pay more for it. Why buy a bigger quad when the blaster has an amazing power to weight ratio to begin with. Modding the stock blaster is easy, I'd rather have a challenge anyway. I appreciate everyone's input.

Once again I have changed my mind. I dont want a liquid cooled engine, or one without a counter balancer. If I have around 1,100 bucks would that be enough to see huge gains for the 200? The only thing I want is this to be a wheelie machine like my uncles raptor 700r. Upgrade the power enough That it can do easy wheelies without slipping the clutch in 1st or 2nd gear. I know the first thing will be a pipe. What else would be a bang for the buck?

Advanced timing, milled rechambered head, portwork, bb top end, larger carb....and the list goes on. @ $650 would get you portwork, bore/hone, new piston, 32 or 34mm carb, carb cable, intake manifold, timing advance mod, mill/rechambered head and all necissary gaskets. That would leave you plenty of money for a good pipe.
