I'm about to buy a 2005 blaster, the person i'm buying it from said the piston was replaced and it started fine , he hasn't started it in a while and it wont start now any ideas what can be wrong with it?

he probs dident know anything a bout it, and dident get it rebored.... only replacwed the piston. ask him if he got it rebored, and check the carb and spark plug. make sure the carb isent clogged and make sure the spark plug is still sparking

well im going to pick it up in 2 days, this is just from what i was told. he did say he hasn't cleaned the carb so ill give it the basics and will update when i do thanks for the quick responses

take a compression tester with you, if it's 120ish + it's good to go
anything near or below 100psi, the dudes a liar, he never had it bored

compression test....hold the throttle wide open and kick it till the needle stops

take a couple new plugs with you, ngk-b8es

check to see if the oil injection is still intact and the tank has oil in it (under the seat)
or if he premixes his fuel...32:1
new fuel, check for compression and spark, new plug and it should start
if it doesn't, offer him half of what he's asking, then we'll help ya get it running
could be something as simple as a broken reed, but don't tell him that, jew him down, way down if it won't start

Also 1 other question, if the piston was replaced and it was rebored will the stock carb work or does the jets need to be changed?

I wouldn't do crap to help him get it started. "Needs carb cleaned" is/can be code for it's jacked and won't run. Other than comp test, which if it's good makes it worth a little more, in my mind you're buying a roller, reguardless of how good or bad.

i will try to start it when i go to get it, he said it starts but then dies out a little after, i dont think its a roller just needs some work

Just remember it's a buyer's market. What year, condition and price are you talking?? Look on CL near and where ever to compare price/condition. I'm near Detroit and frequently look at say Atlanta to compare prices. Are you comfortable doing any work on it that may be required?

its a 2005 blaster red/white, he was asking 1200 i told him the most i can do is 800,and yes i am willing to fix it if it needs to be done.it looks like its in really good shape garage kept, he said the only thing done was replaced the piston.everything is stock , when i go to get it in 2 days i will check it out in person , any advice about what i should look at to make sure nothing else is wrong.

$800 for an 05 in good shape is a good deal, even blown,
I'd stand it up to look for frame bends, right behind the A-arms, rock and roll it back and forth/side to side to check for worn ball joints, tie rods and wheel/axle/swing arm bearing play, if that all checks out......bring it home !
