Piston Rings

do a compression test , and a leak down test If you dont have at least 120 psi of compression you need a top end , although I had 112 psi and it still ran ok but once I did the top end and had 130 ish I could see the difference right away in throttle response . I don't have the leak down pressure and hold times , but someone else can chime in on that .

yep low compression is a dead give away for bad rings. you can pick up a compression tester for cheap like 20 bucks a harbor freight. leakdown test is for checking for an airleak in the seals in gaskets in the top end. won't tell you anything about your ring condition but is a must after taking any part of the top end apart... ie... head, cylinder, reeds, crank seals. also good to do on any new quad purchased. holeshotman has them for 30 bucks on the forsale page pm him for a leakdown tester. it should hold 5-7 psi for a minute or two without any change.
