Its a yamaha and its 2 stroke. Thought I would share. Its an 87 that spent its life on a farm. Never registered. I should be able to make 60 HP with it when I'm done next year.

nice grab, but here comes the farm jokes............

life on the farm is sometimes a sh*tty one !
and
who HOGGED out the intakes ???
LOL

Ouch, Turbowrenchhead, be careful on the grinding.
Bigger is not always better.

I'd suggest to keep driving it, not a big year long modification program.
Pick up spare cylinders or heads, do a small mod, swap and test it.
One mod at a time, testing to see if you are getting better.

Did this work? Was it faster like this?

I have read and watch several vids on banshee porting. I basically just copied what I researched. I did the porting myself. I don't have the funds to get it up and running for this years trip. We are leaving next Wednesday, its not happening.

i had a yz 125 before that liked to chew rings like crazy. owned it for a good 3 years and rebuilt it more then 4 or 5 times. it would always draw a line down the piston right between the intake ports and would end by cutting a ring and blowing. it was owned by a pro racer before and now i know why it happend so often. it may have been ported but had intake windows similer to the looks of one of yours. with such little metal between the intake windows it has a tendency to crack or have extra wear on areas of contact with piston. Usually you want a good width of metal there to save piston life aswell if the piston port windows arent that big i dont think theres any reason to open that up. Other then that it looks good i like the white black and red look, i wouldnt mind getting a banshee myself in some time.

It was actually the exhaust on the YZ I believe Neil.
Exhaust port bridge on your YZ was too thin, cut into the piston even when drilled with lube holes. Sure worked good though!
The bridge might have been bulging from heat too. The intake side is not so bad. Cooler and lubed better.
On the intake side you have to watch for the ring ends, not too close to the port.

Sheesh, so many bikes over the years. Gets hard to remember did what to what...

here is that bike:

Hey, where you at? Get off the computer and get down here! :)

If it is too close I might have to put longer rods in it or start over on a fresh set of jugs. I have another set for it.
