Hello my name is Trevor.

I picked up a 2001 Blaster about a little over a month ago, knowing very little about atv's and engine repair.

I have been through replacing the front brake drums, and adjusting the front brakes entirely. Which by the way, it seems that these brakes suck and I would like to look into hydro conversion.

My real problem is the way its running right now. It also may be leaking something in a few places.
It bogs all the way until half way through 3rd gear. I have not taken the carb apart, but I ran some power foam through and it seemed to help it a little bit.

Either way I tried adjusting the fuel screw and took off, and then realized a few mins later my fuel screw popped out.
While it was misplaced, i stuck the fuel screw from my trx 450r in its place.
Tightened down quite a bit it stopped leaking fuel and i started her up. after warming up the difference, WOW what a difference, this thing was like a brand new machine, I could hear the power unleashed in the engine, and it ripped through every gear from 1st.
I then found my blasters fuel screw and compared the differences.
The blaster fuel screw is missing a washer/oring and spring. The trx450r fuel screw had an oring on it. So I ordered a new fuel screw, washer, and spring oem which im waiting to receive.

Now the blaster wont even run on the original fuel screw, I would have to throw the trx screw in temporarily.

But even with this screw in now, its back to bogging the same way.

Also im going to post some pics of some key spots that look like they could use answering.

Something important broken?

Im sure thats not the only thing wrong here.

I think this one speaks for itself

So whats the deal here?

The 1st pic is missing a screw and tab that holds the wires away from the chain. 2nd pic the spring is supposed to hold the lever back but I can't tell if anythings missing. 3rd pic is mising an exhaust peice with 2 clamps. 4th isn't supposed to be welded together and obviously leaking. You could use the red rtv but if it was me I would ditch that basically stock dg pipe and get something else. As for the air screw, look online and see exactly what your missing maybe even someone on here can send you the parts you need. Then you can try and figure out what the problem is with jetting. I don't know if the fuel screw from your other bike is going to suppliment the air screw on this bike.

oh and in the second pic it looks like your case has a chip in it where the clutch spring is supposed to be held in you can see a little notch still there where its supposed to be held in. also watch for that clutch cover to leak looks like its sealed with a bead of silicone. also the silicone used to hold the clutch cover looks like the stuff you need.

Ahh I see it now that little peice in the 2nd peice is broken off. Good eye 95! I'm on my phone... haha

the only reason i noticed is becuase mine is broke there also and everytime i look close at the blaster i see it

Is that little piece important? seems to shift just fine.

and how about a whole new exhaust?

Its not major if its shifting fine I wouldn't worry about it. You don't need a whole new exhaust but the dg isn't much if any better than stock...

I would pull the carb and clean it real good. Put the clutch arm spring back in it's hole and check the air filter. Read up and do a leak down and compression test.
