Painting axle??

Has anyone ever done it? If so, did the paint or powdercoat hold up or did it end up scratching off and look like crap. I'm just curious because I'm thinking about doing it on my build. Thanks.

i have mine painted black.i put like 3 coats of primer and 3-4 coats of black.seems to hold up pretty good.has a couple small scratches but nothin to make it look like crap

that wouldnt last one ride on the trails and strip jobs around here, might be ok if ya only ride in grassy feilds, or on a show bike

IMO paint is actually better then PC for something that gets exposed to the rocks and ruts- it's easy to touch up.
Another option would be use some steel wool starting with the rough 'o' grade stuff and working your way up the the 'oooo' to give it a nice polish.

I did the polish on mine and its awesome.. But it dont last long for as much work as it takes.

I painted mine black without clear and it lasted through one top end and still looks great.

sand the axle. with 400 grit, primer is your chose.. not needed on bare metal since your not painting over body filler or rust... use a good paint.. i recommend duplicolor engine enamal.. its strong and gas and oil resistant, 3-4 coats... than 3-5 coats of duplicolor engine enamal clear coat.. will give it a nice rich color.. and after its cured( less than a week) it can be wet sanded and buffed and waxed if gets scratched or scuffed...
