paint removal for plastics

hey guys, im completely repainting my blaster and it is now time for me to remove the paint from my plastics. the guy before me did a sh*tty job so im going to redo them. i started out taking the paint of with a compressor but its not effective at all and takes forever. i tried to go to the Ace hardware in my town, but they didn't have any paint remover that was safe for plastics. i don't really want to do anything that involves sanding id rather find a paint remover. is there any paint remover that exists that is safe for plastic, and where can i buy it. if not are there alternative ways to remove the paint?

i was told dot 3 brake fluid works, what you do is put it on the parts you want the paint to come off of, let it soak for a couple of minutes and wipe away, if you do this make sure when you're done you clean the plastics(make sure you test it on a small part of the plastics first to make sure its safe to use)

i happen to be doing the same thing let me know if you find of any effective ways to remove paint and what kind of paint your going to use

if you are repainting, just use sand paper and sand off the old paint then wetsand the plastic to give it a nice smooth finish for the new paint.

depending on how thick the paint is you can soak a rag with lacquer thinner and lay it over the plastics for a few minutes that will cause the paint to wrinkle up, and take a cleanr soaked rag and wipe the paint off

i wouldnt use a acid based stripper.. she might give you the clap LOL!!!

I used to use carb cleaner back when i had a set of nitro rc trucks it wrinkled up and came right off and that was the factory paint so it was strong so it would most likely work for this. But you will have to sand it too and you have to repaint it but the paint does come right off.

Nitromorse will do the trick! Brush it on an a few seconds later jet was the paint off! Remove ur plastics from ur atv before u do this because nitromorse will strip the paint of any thing! Hope this helps!

carb cleaner, and the wet sand idea is really good too.gives you smooth as new skin feel.

a better way is to use klean strip, its sold at lowes and home depots, prob walmart too. it will eat a small layer of the plastic off, you just rinse and your good to do. carb cleaner dies your hands out too much.

if you need to do some areas with deep scratches then sand down the plastics, use mothers polish let sit and buff out, you can get oem grade finish and glossy plsatics that way. i did on my 250R tank, looked nice.

i use to klean strip on all my sportbike wheels to remove oem style paint, polish lips and then repaint with my color and finish of choice. been using the stuff 5 years...give it a shot for $5. works on wood, steel, hot or cold weather also.
