My son has had a 1991 Blaster stuck in moth balls for a few years. We ran it when we got it, he ran it a couple years and pretty much pushed it in the corner for a while.

Well he got the itch again and he drug it out, gave it a good washing and now we begin.

The clutch cable was froze so we ordered new and got past that. Put fresh go juice in and she fired up. Ahh no brakes, at all. No suprize as they never worked well. We took apart the rear caliper and reset things and now we have some stopping ability. Seems like there is some sputtering but we haven't run it for more than 20 minutes total yet.

Now some research into brake systems. It seems hydraulic is the way to go but we are really "bolt on" guys. If things get ugly we will get the work done with help so we are open minded about fixes for this shortcoming. Front brakes are, well kinda sticky if present. we are wondering if some cleaning and cables are all that is needed or is there another skeleton in the bankroll closet?

Some kick start issues. Sometimes it grabs and sometimes your kicking air. We didn't see much on that in reading so far so any thoughts?

As we were reading through the forum it seems like some helpful people stop by so we will be happy to take any suggestions. He is looking for a ride to do general purpose riding. No racing other than checking his machine against a buddy's, lol. Oh yeah, the injection unit was dissabled when we bought it so we have that out of our hair. Other than that she is bone stock.

Soooooo, let us know what you think. we would like to hear from you. Suggestions for upgrades or sources would be great!

We'll update our intro as disasters present themselves!

hey welcome to the forum ! This is a great place for information, and its good to see another ahem "seasoned" not old guy around !!

A good cleaning lubing the front brakes will give you some decent usage, but as for the rear brakes a good cleaning, and buying a "shorty" cable from ebay makes a world of difference.. It will disable the cable going to the parking brake, and it will use the pedal for just the rears... It is a quick simple, and effective mod.

Good luck.. Enjoy !

Where are you guys from?

Hi all and thanks for the shorty cable thoughts.

We will get our profile fixed up soon. To answer your question we are from NE Pa. (the Poconos area).

you mean sometimes it grabs and other times it wont catch? believe its the kick return spring

To be clearer on the issue the kickstarter returns fine. When you go to kickstart the engine it will turn over the first kick then maybe 3-4 kicks there is nothing happening inside the case. It seems that if we let it return all the way to the top there is a higher chance you will get it to "grab" on the way down. It's hit or miss.

Sorry I know this isn't the place to be asking questions but as I said before there sure are alot of helpful people on here. I can't say enough good about the site.

Hey all I'm Mike's son. I appreciate all the help and I'm enjoying the forum. So just here to say thanks and gl to everyone else.

Take the side cover off and inspect things. Also pull the carb off and clean it good. Check your reeds and make sure they arent stuck or cracked. As for the front brakes check everything out. If it looks questionable. Replace it.

Also clean and re-oil your air filter. If its beyond that just replace it.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help.

We have taken off the air filter and cleaned it quite profusely.

We will be taking the carb apart soon and checking that out.

Also I've been toying with the front brakes, Adjusting them, cleaning them and even a bit of WD-40. They have shown some signs of improvement and hopefully will be of some use when driving.
