Sorry, I didn't search back to find the old post, but I remember talking about how one of my blasters had some really old gas in the carb (none in the tank) when I took it apart. It was a liquid when I took it all apart, no clogging issues or anything.....and then someone warned me about old gas and how it can really crud stuff up.
Well I finally went to put the carb on this weekend. The carb had been sitting in the basement, opened but put back together (the bowl wasn't screwed back on). Well, I go to make sure I have the right jet in there, and the old gas had turned to like polyurethane!!! It was caked EVERYWHERE!! I had to soak it in fresh gas for a day to get the pin out for the float!! Then had to soak it more and pick away at the crud with a lock pick set to remove the gunked up and stuck needle in the seat!! There was like 1/4-1/2" of what I can only describe as being very similar to dried up old polyurethane in the bottom of the float bowl!!! It was a freaking mess!!!
It's pretty clean now though, but it was a real PITA!!! Carb and choke cleaner didn't do much to help....had to soak it in gas to get the stuff to loosen up. I'm hoping that it's all clean and clear now, but we'll see. If not, I may have to buy a used stock carb off of someone!!! So yeah, this is a warning......don't do what I did!!! Doh!!
