Putting together a blaster motor, I'm having no luck getting the oil pump to turn. The shaft is spinning coming out of the engine. If I spin the metal gear inside the oil pump, the side shaft goes in and out. But when I slide the pump over the shaft and turn the engine over, that shaft no longer is moving in and out.
I originally wanted to bypass the pump all together, but don't wanna deal with having to rejet the carb since its not my blaster and I wanna keep the carb stock. So whats going on here?

Also, whats the steps to priming the oil pump/carb prior to first fire?

as far as i know you dont have to rejet unless you change the pipe/silencer. i ran my blaster stock with oil injection blocked off for a couple years until i changed the jets and pipe/silencer and reeds... but i could be wrong.

yeah man, no jetting change needed for premix. its more of a pita than just pulling up to the pump but i dont mind at all.

Thanks guys. Maybe I'll just go ahead and do the pump delete anyways and just have him watch the spark plug to make sure its not running lean.

But for my own sanity and knowledge, why wasn't the pump gear turning?

the plastic gear could have been lunched, thats all i can think of w/o seeing what u are talking about.

as for premixing, you *might* have to bump the jet up one size just because the gas with oil in it doesnt flow as freely thru the jet as straight gas would. Just check ur plug (like u plan on doing) and you should be fine.

Engine is all brand new being put back together.
When I use the kickstart, the shaft that spins the oil pump is moving. Then when I spin the oil pump itself, theres the shaft with the rubber nipple over it that moves in and out as the gear inside is spun. But when I place the oil pump over the shaft and mount it. The shaft no longer moves in and out when the engine is turned over making me think the oil pump gear is not engaged with the shaft.

Could the shaft be in the wrong position and not going all the way in the pump?
does the pump go all the way in ?

As for priming the pump , the best way is to make a batch of pre mix and disconnect the small tube where it goes in the carb, pulg the hole in the carb, and run the engine on the pre-mix until the oil flows out of the tube steady, then reconnect and put plan gas in

Reputable shop put the bottom half together so I would assume the oil shaft is all the way through. And yes the oil pump will mount flush to the case as well.

i just say hell with it and remove it. its probably more trouble than its worth. i am going to remove mine tomorrow or sunday cause i dont like em

Grab the shaft coming out of the crank case, does it spin when u turn it by hand?

There are only so many things that can cause this and one of them is living in your motor..

Does the shaft spin by hand? if it does the shop left out the metal pin that connects the shaft to the plastic gear inside the crank case.

Nope, but moves when kick starter is applied. It just seems like the metal gear and the shaft are not meshing. :-/
But I called vitos for sh*ts and giggles and the guy said a rejetting would not be necessary either.
