I recently purchased a 01 blaster very low hrs. what a deal!!!! One and a half tanks of gas later engine seized, Yamaha here say's oil pumps don't fail they get contaminated, so the problem is maintenance?? Every thing I read tells me to block off oil pump and mix, but that's what I liked about this model (No oil to deal with every time I need gas). Do I have to block off oiler, or can I just mix and ride? Do oil pumps mechanically fail?

you can mix in your tank and just not use the oil injection, i have heard some people do that, but do the block off you won't regret it

they DO fail and what a lie to say they don't. the cause of the failure is the little PLASTIC gear, yes i said plastic, they make a gear running a critical component that keeps your engine from dieing out of god damn plastic. its a white gear on the inside of the clutch cover that drives the pump and thats known to fail and not only stop your engine from being lubricated but send nice little plastic parts into your transmision and get into all your bearings and do a nice job to them.

rebuild your top end, block it off, premix at 32:1 and your good to go. no more worries. at the same time get rid of your tors, that will only cause you grief.

run 32:1 its what most ppl run and tors means throttle override system. its the block thing above your carb

the block off is really easy to do. you take off the clutch cover(after draining the tranny oil) then take off the c clip that holds the plastic gear, go to the other side and take off the pump cover(plastic) then take off the pump, install the block off plate with the gasket, then take off the tube that goes to the carb and you plug it with the given caps then take off your oil tank at the rear and then start premixing 32:1. 32 is the safest, 50:1s geting up there and a little lean but some run it. go 32:1.

the TORS (throttle override system) is that unit on top of the carb and theres another control box up front under the hood. when it sences your throttles stuck wide open, it kills the power to the engine. safe right? well, it is known for causing electrical problems like poor running and alot of the time is the cause for the engine not getting spark. removing it saves you the trouble of it failing out on the trails or in the middle of the dunes and not knowing about it. easy to remove and then you can mark that off for reasons that would be causing you any engine problems.

glad you like the forums. lots of people here to help.

You have to plug the oil inlet to the carb or it makes for a nasty air leak that will lean you out and fry your engine again! My oil line from the ressi to the pump got pluged and burnt mine up.
