no, its really easy, you can save yourself 40 bux and just grab a thin peice of metal about 1 3/4" x1", or you can just leave the gear in there.
first take the injection cover off(front right side, phillips head)
there is 2 little screws that hold the pump on take them out and pull off the pump.
if the tank in the back still has oil its gonna start pouring out.
then the small line on the right side of the carb going into the cover you took off, cut it about 1-1 1/2 away from the carb and put a screw with some rtv sealant in the end.
if you have to do any clutch work or change tranny oil/inspect, pull the whole clutch cover off and pull the plastic gear out, this is where the thin peice of metal comes in to block off the whole where the shaft once was. Your gonna need some gasket maker for this.
If you dont have to take the clutch cover off, then i would leave the gear in there for now, but thats entirely up to you. This way you wont have to make a block off plate, or seal anything.
anyways what ever way you choose to do it ,take the whole oil tank assembly/lines off.
dont forget to save the little black rubber peice that going into the injection cover so you can put it back in.
also DO NOT FORGET TO DRAIN GAS AND PREMIX BEFORE STARTING!!
