My Buddy just bought an almost completely stock blaster, except for a .040 over piston, and Boyesen reeds in the stock cage. It has great compression, and a big spark. All that I can get it to do is pop for a second, and that's about it. I think that it's the CDI, but I'm not sure, I tried a 230 main jet, and a 240. This is drivimg me nuts, please help!

i think if your cdi went bad then it wouldnt spark, not a 100% sure tho .
did you try maybe cleaning the carb real good ? .. whats the plug look like?.

yea if ur gettign spark its gotta be a fuel issue. wat year is it r the tors connected? also check air filter for being clogged and clean the carb.

try and see if the exhaust is clogged up to seena few ppl with mice nests in the pipes... lol

When I kick it over a few times, the plug comes out wet. The tors is removed, and I can't tell what color the spark is because it only ran for 2 seconds. I believe that it might be the cdi box because That would cause the timing to be f@ched up. I don't think that it's the reeds because the guy that he bought it from said that they were new, but I'll double check them.

sounds just like a jetting prob to me. after cleaning the carb real good (including the jets), try adjusting the idle speed and air screw.
also, check the tors. a bad or wrongly wired tors will cut the bike off. same w/ the e-brake wire.
by the by, the main jet wouldn't have any affect whatsoever on the bike starting or idling. the pilot jet would.
also check the condition of the reeds.

I had a similar problem with my bike, it ran good for a while, started running rough made some adjustments. It ran for a minute shut off and then after that all I could do was get it to pop sometimes.... I checked the compression and it was 25psi because of a blown ring.....

plug was wet so fuel isn't a problem.

it had spark to start, so most likely good spark. If you remove the plug, pop it into the plug boot and either lay it on top of the engine or hold it so that the electrode is grounded on the engine and kick it over, you'll see if it's got spark. Sometimes you may need to have someone help you look to see the spark....either way, sounds like you probably have spark.

air. If you're just in the garage or something, for sake of just getting the thing running, pull the air filter off....hopefully the airbox is clean!! See if it will start. Look to see how bad the air filter is and if the carb is very dirty. If the air filter is way dirty, and a clean one doesn't fix the problem, maybe look into the carb.

Also, you may want to check the pipe and silencer for obstructions. Take the silencer off and try to start it (don't run it for long without it on there....just to see if it's the problem).

Or, it could be bad gas.....
See if it starts with starter fluid being sprayed right into the carb. Oh yeah, and the choke should be on.

Had very similar problem. I cleaned carb thinking that was it. Nope. I had what appeared to be good spark. I tested my coil and found out my coil was bad. Still sparking but not enough. Test your coil. Hope this helps.

Found the problem. Plugged expansion chamer. My friend bought this quad for 200 bucks with a fresh top end rebuild. The guy didn't have the patience to fix it, so he got screwed. Thanks guys
