All of those Bare wires need a connector on them. That is a mess, but if you have the wires connected as you said, I think it's right, But maybe your not getting enough voltage with just the wires together they need to have connectors on them for a good connection. Where you at in pa close to Pittsburgh??

Sorry bro, had to please the wife!! Im think you should crimp those bare wires together with connectors then give it a try, BTW that first pic you have has me a little confused, Looks like there is a yellow /w red strip and a solid yellow and black with red strip together?? I used 1/4" spade quick dissconnects on all my wiring they are insulated too.

it has paint on the wire thats why it look like that. there are conected write acording to color. and i was thinking could i mount the cdi near the coil and eliminate the whole harness and just wire the stator wires right into it?
