So i got ahold of ken oconnor (very informative and down to earth guy) about my jetting and was on the right track after his suggestions.and then i had a major failure seems my kickstarter busted the case just when this thing was coming alive.

So luckily i have an entire spare engine and snatched the spare and put it on swapping my new bearrings to the new case halve.but got a couple questions first i used hondabond which i got from world of powersports at their recommendation is this ok?second i got that sh*t everywhere and layed it on thick since i know that sealing these halves is imperative a bunch squeezed out when i started torqueing the halves and got a little on the gears im sure and for sure on the crank but using brakleen on a rag wiped most of it off the crank again will this hurt anything since i got a little carried away with it figuring better safe than sorry?and third the only part of the manual i couldnt make out was the direction of the "CONICAL WASHER" Thats behind the clutch basket i put it on facing down and then the washer after that is this correct or am i backwards when looking at the manual?

I inspected everything while it was apart following kens videos on you tube and polished the shafts the shift forks ride on and everything looked and went great.i checked the woodruff key per kens request to see why the engine was kicking back on the kickstarter which is why i think it broke and its perfect so im not sure if the compression is why its kicking back on me or not anyone ever experience this?

Also anyone ever break the case up at the kick starter i asked ken and he agreed it was a bit odd.

i used to have a 1985 honda atc 250sx and it would kick back at me sometimes when i tried starting it . You talk about a he** of a shin kikr . but i've never had a case break on me .

I haven't seen a case half broken by the kickstater, but I have seen engines kick back and drive the kicker through the clutch cover. I got the 2002 Blaster (which I recently sold) like that; the previous owner put a new top end on and forgot to reinstall the flywheel key. It popped once and slammed the kicker into the cover, putting a hole in it. He gave up; I got it for $ 500.00, put in a new flywheel key, replaced the broken cover, and went riding.

In your case, the engine shouldn't kick back as long as the engine's ignition timing is set correctly. Even strong compression won't pop a kicker back unless you don't kick it firmly. Have you TESTED your igntion coil per the manual? A weak spark won't cause kick-back on its own, but it will make the quad hard to start and wear you out.

I don't like Hondabond, but it does the job and works if used properly. A little extra 'bond isn't needed for the engine cases to seal, but it shouldn't hurt anything. The main problem with Hondabond is that it tends to run and drip until dry. You MUST let it set for 24 hours or more before firing up the engine.

I use a product called Dirko that you've probably never heard of. It is available from Stihl power equipment dealers (I'm a small engine tech and have no trouble getting some) and works great. It seals well, is red in color so you KNOW where you put it, and you can assemble an engine and it will be dry by the time you get everything back together again. My .02.

Ok cool i appreciate it.im waiting on gaskets and seal everything looked reuseable on the lower end but figured for the price of seals id do them now and save some headaches down the road.

I realize the hondabond goes on thin but the sh*t comes out quickly its all cleaned on the outside cases and whatever will probably be nothing more than a pain in my ass to clean up if i ever have go split the cases.

Bottom line will the hondabond hold up and is it good?this really wasnt too bad to do but its time consuming so id rather not have to waste an evening tearing it down and rebuilding it back up so i hope this was good stuff.
