I just picked up a '99 blaster this morning for $700. This is my 2nd one. Can't wait to start moddin' it. Stock except for K&N filter. biotch to start right now though. Any suggestions for easier starting?
BTW, I'm in South Louisiana.....Walker to be exact, about 15 miles east of Baton Rouge.

mmm. since you just got it I would do a compresion check on it, take a look at the reeds, clean the carb and make sure the orig. 230 jet is in the carb as it should be if it is all stock, also make sure it is a B8ES plug and dont forget to change the oil. then I'd pull off the oil injection and put a block on it. I would also remove the TORS with a cap and cable kit. this is just what I would do with a new bike and time.

blasterresto is correct... but i would start with a new plug anyway. then make sure you have a good spark.

i would drain the gas tank... and clean it out

take the carb apart and use a carb gasket kit, clean it up good.

and definitely check your compression...

and if it still has the oil injection.... get rid of it before you ever ride it... it's going on 9 years old.

these seem like a lot of steps, but if you do them you will have narrowed the margin of error down quite a bit.

good luck... keep us posted.

The oil pump has already been removed. It right fired up when I went and looked at it, but when I got home I couldn't get it cranked. I had to go to work, so I really couldn't mess with it too much. It does have different jets in it, the guy did give me the old jets. It is a one owner bike. He still had the original bill of sale.

welp, if it is stock you dont want to be running another jet.. and it ran then and dosn't now as suprex said change the plug and check yur spark, specially if you tried to start it a bit you could have fouled the plug.

welcome, glad to see somebody else from louisiana on here.

oh and blasteresto it can get pretty damn cold down here lol, but spring is comin so its not that bad during the day anymore when its not raining.
