I just bought a '99 blaster and about the only good thing on is the engine. it is completly missing the rear brake assembly and was wondering what would be the cheapest way to fix it. Could I use any yamaha brake assembly or does it have to be a racing style ATV? Any help or tips is much appreciated.

sorry if this is the wrong area to post this sort of question kinda new to the forum!I:I

hahaha, I am in the same boat as you. I got my 99 and nothing was there for the rear brakes. I am trying to piece together a setup with possibly just having the right foot for the rear brake and take away the parking brake.

REAR BRAKE KIT YAMAHA 88-05 BLASTER 200 YFS 200: eBay Motors (item 380251757220 end time Aug-16-10 07:38:48 PDT)

and you need a caliper, rotor and a bracket also I assume...there are many on ebay or someone here may have a setup for you to buy... good luck!! Any pictures?

when you say trash the mechanical brakes what do you mean? like are they more complicated installing? are they more expensive? or is there something better to get? because as of now I'm just looking to get some sort of brakes on it other than the front and the cheapest and fastest is the route I would like to go

If you can afford it, replace them with something that works. The mechanical brakes are prone to problems like sticking or rusting and don't work very well even when they're in good shape. You can repair them but it won't be long before you have to do it again. Probably won't cost much more to upgrade to hydro's that to buy a complete functioning stock setup

Did you check out this thread: http://www.blasterforum.com/suspension-14/gsxr-rear-brake-conversion-23614/

would it be easier to buy the mechincal then convert over or just start with the hydro like you were saying? because I have absolutly nothing so I'd have buy the entire setup.

Awks hydro kit is the best way to fix your brakes. Installed my hydro from AWK Sat. and it was very simple. I didn't want to bother with a stock system i knew was weak to start with. If you can turn a wrench to any capacity it will be a wizz!!!! I:I

so that's the hot ass brake set up i've been seeing around. I have the stock hydros(2004) but they look no where near that sweet. looks like I might have to sell them. hey awk if you read this will that caliper bolt right up to my set up? could i just use my whole setup just replace the caliper? that caliper looks and is better than mine being a dual piston
