new truck

if you get a dakota and you live in an area that gets snow MAKE SURE YOU GET THE 4x4 cause the 2wd dakota's are the worse truck i have ever rod in for the winter.

I have an 05 Dakota. Not crazy about it to be completely honest. Just poorly built, cheap parts. If you're into modding, there's not much available out there. There's a bit more for the V8's but still not great. It really just hauls around the blaster, and w/ the quad cab, I can't even put the tailgate up. I don't know much about the Tacoma's, so I can't really compare the two. I wouldn't buy a 2003 or later Dakota again though, but that's just my two cents.

I had a 97 tacoma that I bought brand new. Extra cab v6 loaded.

Sold it with 297,000 miles and ran perfect. Original clutch. Never in the shop once besides brakes, tires, tune up and oil changes. Lots of highway miles, long commute.

If you want to buy American.........The Tacoma and Tundra are the most american trucks on the planet. Toyota trucks are made in US factories along with alot of the parts. Other car makers use factories in Mexico, and other places.

Also take in considertaion what you find and best deal. The Tacomas hold there value the best. They will cost more in the used market than the Dodge.

thanks for the input guys. as far as year ranges, im lookin at between a 2000 and an 06. i dont like the new dodge dakota body style its too blocky. and of course i will be getting 4x4 and to anyone who ever bought a truck without 4wheel, shame on you.

"anyone who ever bought a truck without 4wheel, shame on you."

nahhhh, you didnt make the choice! im buying from a dealer, so i WILL be getting what i want. ive had a 2wheel truck. i had a 2door dropped blazer in red. it was a wild truck to drive. almost typhoon status.

I agree with you here. It's weird, from some angles I love the way it looks, but then others, I absolutely hate it.

I have a Dakota and its a f*cking tank. But its a 91. It is a 3.9 V6 auto 2WD (not by choice, by budget) long bed. Last winter I had 300lbs of sand in the bed and a Leer Crown cap, so roughly 500lbs plus snow tires all around and it was a good truck. Its got 138K on it and the only problem it has is it will go through about a qt every 1000-1500 miles, but thats a combination of leaking and burning. Not the fastest truck, but like I said, its a tank. As for the Toyotas, Ive never been in one except at the car show in Cleveland.
