hi. my name is dylan. i recently got a 2005 balster off my buddy that moved to alabama. it runs ok and looks really bad but im gonna fix it up as i get money. i got the bike in good running riding condition for 400. i plan to completly redo the whole bike. i have a few questions though cause im not familiar with 2stroke bikes. my first question is. i wanna make this bike better then new and fast but mot mess with the motor. is it worth redoing the bike? also i was riding it today and it has a very low idle and a slight tinging noise. i cleaned the carb put a new plug in it and tried to adjust the air/ gas mixture and nothing. but when it runs on choke it runs great. BUT the carb is clean what is the problem? thanks in advance for all the help and ill get pics up in a few

welcome to the forum
I would take the cylinder off and look at the piston make sure its not cracked that may be whats causing the pinging noise

Welcome to the site bro.......

Ask all the quaestions you want and look around the site.

The Blaster is a great quad and is very simple to work on. There are alot of members with some crazy Blasters. I bought mine for my wife and am planning on buying another for me sometime in the future.

these things are pretty noisy while they're running. have you tried to adjust the idle?

first take the air/fuel screw on the carb and gently bottom it out, and then back it out 1.5 turns. then if you take the seat off, there should be a large flathead screw that is what you use to adjust the idle speed.

btw welcome to the forum

here is what the bike looks like its really rough but it runs and drives! i also think whats hurting the bike is that there is no air cleaner lid and the air cleaner is SHOT its beyond washing its barly even holding on

ahh so thats what that big screw is for! thank you for telling me! now i know what to do im gonna try it tomarrow

no problem at all. just be careful, they are prone to stripping, they're threaded into brass (yamaha seems to be good at stuff like that)

Thats not in bad shape at all.............

Could use some new tires LOL

Get a pipe and airfilter and it should wake it up.

yea i have some big plans for the bike and yea the tires are gone they each have 7 plugs in them there fun as hell on the wet road though lol

i also have a few more questions. is a toomey pipe a good soundsing and performing pipe for the blaster? and my plug fouls out really guick and im tired of buying plugs! lol what fuel/ oil mix should i run? 40:1 or 50:1? and should it shoot white smoke out the pipe? or does that mean its running to rich?

if its shooting white smoke, then it is burning transmission fluid, so it needs a clutch side crank seal. most mix 32:1. i take it you've already blocked off the oil injection? or you're planning on it?

Toomey is a good pipe for the Blaster and from what i heard people say it is one of the best sounding also. I think everyone on here runs 32:1. It should smoke but not like a smoke fog behind you... You might have to check your jetting. As for fouling plugs it could be to rich or are you putting around on it alot? If so you have to clean it out every once in awhile. Meaning get up on the throttle to clean it out. You can pull in the clutch to do this. You should clean or replace the airfilter. Removing the airbox lid is a easy mod but might require you to rejett for more air flow.

well its not completely white its more of a tinted blue like im burning to much oil in the gas mixture and yea the bike has had the oil injection taken off thats why the bike is now a 220 instead of a 200 loland what is 32:1 ? like how many ouces of oil per gallon is that?

I dont think your Blaster is a 220. I bet it is just bored .20 over. Which now makes it 198cc.

Im not sure on the onces to a gallon, but Ill check I use a ratio rite cup Im lazy LOL>..

well i plan to get that pipe for it.and it leaves a white/blue tint behind me when i ride.and as for the plug i definatly do NOT putt around on it. the bike sees all 6 gears every few minutes i ride i never putt around loland i just bought the plug last night it shouldnt be foul already? and another thing the bike runs flawlessly when its on choke as soon as i take it off choke the idle drops and the bike dies.then it dosent start and makes a weird noise from the pipe like its spitting air? but as soon as the bike gets put on choke it fires right up and runs great. and thats just after i got done riding it today. and i already cleaned the carb i dont know what it could be?

its 4 ounces per gallon. if its blue then it should be ok, white is a sign that its trans fluid. drain the oil out and put in 32:1. what mix are you running now?

it sounds as though you may have an air leak as well

yea its not a stock 220 its been bored twice cause it has blew up twice and each time was .10 over so it as .20 over. so its not even a 200cc ? what are they stock? 195cc?

right now im running 3 ounces per every gallon also what is the best oil for the blasters? i find that my bike does not like the high dollar oil (which is fine by me) lol
